There are, in general, two procedures or approaches that can be used in doing job analysis and they are the task-oriented and the worker-oriented job analysis. Task-oriented job analysis procedures refer to the use of the actual tasks that an individual has to perform. Worker-oriented job analysis, on the other hand, focuses on the skills, attributes, and characteristics that an individual should have in order to be deemed competent or qualified for a specific job .
As a hired Industrial Organization professional at Carbon Corporation, I suggest using the task-oriented job analysis approach. Looking at how the job description as a project manager has been created , it would be safe to suggest that the person who wrote it used the task-oriented job analysis approach because most of the elements that were written there were focused on the actual tasks that an individual would cover once he or she is already on the job.
The main reason why this job analysis approach should continue to be used by Carbon Corporation is that it can be highly detailed when it comes to providing the prospective candidates for a job position information about a job. Job analysts often rate and describe the tasks written in job description documents based on how important they are and how frequently they have to be performed. As a result, the individual becomes able to develop a more holistic view of his role as a part of an organization.
This job analysis approach also significantly minimizes the potential for a job candidate to be misled as the roles and responsibilities are often written in the job description document already in great detail. Another way to put it is to suggest that the task-oriented approach of job analysis promotes a transactional process between an employer and a prospective employee where the former gets to outline what it expects from the latter and the latter gets to specify what he can offer to the former.
