Individual Career Strategy Portfolio
Individual Career Strategy Portfolio
Owing to my current academic qualifications and overall interests, I intend to join the education career market. Specifically, I anticipate to be indulged in a human resource management career in the education sector. This is largely accredited to the fact that this field offers a wide array of job opportunities in the human resource management post. According to Omebe (2014), the goal of a HRM system in education is to develop the employees and make a contribution towards the achievement of organization goals. In this case, it is aimed at assessing the staff needs, maintaining and improving their services and satisfying their needs. There are a variety of personnel in this field to ensure the realization of institutional goals within the academic context. The manager is the chief employer as he or she oversees the overall policy implementation within the institution. The teachers enact the policies set by the school management for the betterment of the academic institution.
The human resource position within the education context has a variety of employment opportunities. These prospects include staff maintenance, relations, development, procurement and job rewards. The school principals and their subordinates oversee staff maintenance. This activity is made possible through constant assessment of their progress and the determination of their needs. On the other hand, staff relations are supervised through the enactment of integration strategies in the HRM policies (Omebe, 2014). This activity involves the establishment of a good communication platform between the employer and the employees. Staff development is made possible through the assessment of staff skills and competencies. Learning programs are initiated to ensure the betterment of the staff members. In procurement and staffing, the human resource management identifies departments and determines which sections require particular members of the personnel. Finally, the job performance rewards system involves the evaluation of performance and offering appropriate compensations.
My desired post is in the staff development department. My anticipation towards joining this sector is largely accredited to the fact that I have a passion for nurturing other people’s ability. As such, I intend to capitalize on my abilities to make the lives of other people more resourceful through their empowerment. Additionally, due to my leadership skills, I believe I can be authoritative while assessing other people’s performance. Being honest in the process would make the learning personnel to work harder towards their success thus fostering their abilities. In addition to my passion for this kind of work environment, I would like to secure this job as it enhances my managerial techniques. After acquiring enough technique through this post, I intend to heighten my service levels to staff maintenance in the HRM or the overall manager of an academic institution. Consequently, the acquisition of the staff development job is not only a preferred career opportunity but also a path towards greater success.
Research Summary and Career Plan
The abovementioned institutions provide a wide array of employment opportunities. However, the human resource management field is significantly captured in the three institutions. Aberdeen Hall Senior gives a provision for the employment of a staff development HRM. In this case, I am a favorable candidate since this is my preferred area of expertise. On the other hand, the Ability Learning Network of Toronto is a more advanced institution and deals with technical fields. Precisely, the HRM team is divided between educational sector, technology and corporate management (Cicic.ca, 2016). Consequently, the job postings offered in this field are rather wide and comprehensive. For instance, the corporate sector of the HRM involves the formulation of organizational policies and their implementation. In fact, it is mainly centered on the betterment of one’s management techniques rather than the academic performance. Finally, Avon View High School offers an average choice of HRM opportunities. For instance, it gives a provision for the application of procurement and staffing and staff development opportunities. However, the wider spectrum of employment opportunities offered makes the overall selection relatively easier.
Upon entry into the job market, I intend to make the most out of my time to develop my managerial and developmental skills. Through this initiative, I would enhance my overall employment opportunity goals by gaining productive experience. By the end of the first year, I should have established productive communication channels with some of the senior staff members at the organization I would be working for. This venture would be resourceful in the long term as it enhances my developmental chances in my preferred career. By the fifth year, I should have gathered enough work experience and influence to secure a human resource manager’s job at an educational institution. This achievement would pave the way for the development of my final goal. By my tenth year in the job market, I anticipate to have gathered enough influence and financial resources to establish a human resource management consultancy firm. This organization will provide managerial advice to corporate leaders who need to make the most out of their staff in the betterment of their companies. The consultancy would be issued based on essential human resource management techniques.
Generally, leadership skills are essential in the development of one’s career. As such, getting employed in the staff development unit needs one to have keen evaluation techniques for proper assessment of the employees. Precisely, an individual needs to distinguish the weaknesses of an individual and learn the most essential means of turning them into advantages. On the other hand, a human resource manager needs to be influential and authoritative. He needs to observe proper methods of implementing policies and interacting with the employees. Regardless of his status, he needs to appreciate the role of the workers in the development of the organization. Finally, having a post in the staff management department requires one to have policy implementation skills. Precisely, the individual needs to internalize the requirements for running a particular unit and put them into action without affecting the performance of a firm negatively.
