A word of encouragement from a respective leader can inspire people to reach their fullest potentials. Likewise, a true leader has no need to lead – he is content to point the right path for his members. Those qualities, in my opinion, are the foremost traits a leader has to achieve in order to obtain a successful and meaningful statute among his people. The basic qualities of a leader are then reflected based on the standards they set for themselves. That is how a leader should respond in every decisions he has to made solely for his fellow countrymen.
David McCullough’s book entitled John Adams is an autobiographical sketch about the very first U.S. Vice-President and the second President of the United States, John Adams. As the very first Founding Father of the United States, it is expected that his period as the very first leader of the United States will be written not only in the history of the United States but also on the hearts of every American citizens. Unfortunately, his contribution on the present-day United States and its citizens may seem very little in terms of what the past leaders had also contributed. He may be treated as a stranger for some, and unknown to many Americans. It is such a misery to know that your greatest contributions of your time will offer no significant effect towards every American citizen. He may not really be as intelligent and firm as we expected him to be, but as a sign of respect and loyalty to your own nation, every American must conform on the idea that he will forever be written in the hearts and minds of his fellow nations. He may not be a strong and powerful leader for the majority, but I am pretty sure that he had done a lot of things for his own nation. His sacrifice would be very momentous as to what the U.S. is all about today.
Among the notable events in John’s life, according to David, was his intimate relationship with his wife, Abigail, as well as his brilliant relationship with the former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. In my opinion, his autobiography serves as an inspiration, not only to his fellow American citizens but also to every native culture in different places all over the world. His biography not only describes who John Adams is, but also teaches us the lesson about nationalism, leadership, and an aspiration for worldwide supremacy. David’s descriptions to John are, likewise, the greatest symbolisms for a true leader. His literary work was like listening to a short story about someone so brilliant and irreplaceable.
I also want to commend David McCullough for his outstanding narrative style for writing John Adam’s life. I know it is very difficult to write the notable events on someone else’s life, especially if he or she is a public individual. Negative criticisms may overflow based on what you have said and described about the person. However, McCullough’s intention to inform his fellow countrymen about John Adam’s contribution to American history did not prevent him from finishing his literary masterpiece. It was one of the greatest works of Art and Literature, I suppose. John Adams may not really be my ideal leader, but for me, he is the greatest example of a follower who leads the country with equal chances and opportunities. He did not consider himself as a leader, but only as an average individual, just like any normal American citizens. That is the main reason why I admired him the most.
