Journeys With George 2002 Movie Review

The movie challenged the way I feel about the personal life of George Bush Jr. because in the documentary it has been shown that he is a top class politician whose main agenda on the campaign trail is to get votes through socialization. The film is mainly based behind the scenes of George Bush’s campaign trail in the 2000 presidential elections. The person recording the unscripted and unpolished life of Bush is an ABC news reporter called Alexandra Pelosi who interviews the politician throughout the road trip.
Throughout the road trip, it comes out that Bush is a marketer who is witty and would go at great lengths to win even a single vote. This is shown when the reporter asks him, “if he was a tree what species would he be?” Bush answers in humour that he was not a tree but rather a Bush! which signifies that he possessed humour and uniqueness. The documentary further shows a relaxed, jovial, and even goofy Bush when he mugs for the camera and flirts with the reporter. We further learn that Bush likes to play with the media, often telling them what they want to hear while at the same time making sure that the unpalatable stories are hidden under a rug. It comes out when Bush is asked a question about his execution record as governor, where he just walked away without answering.
Something new I learned about politics from the documentary is that a politician should always be a politician and always be ready to defend themselves. They should never be caught off guard and instead sharpen their social skills so as to win voters on a daily basis. It is also learned that politics have control over the media where in cases where the media is seen to be biased it is quickly shunned. This was clearly evident when the reporter asked Bush the question about his execution record in Texas in a subjective way, Bush walked away.
