How Injustice Affects Decision-making
Key takeaway
Justice is an aspect that every person should observe or consider because each action has consequences. The consideration has to be made because, unless people observe justice, daily interactions with other people might disrupt the bond that holds the society together. In this case, justice is giving every man his or her right according to the principles and standards that guide or govern his society. For example, businesses should not pollute the environment because doing so is unjust to other people using the resource. Ultimately, businesses that conserve the environment are rewarded by consumers through purchases and loyalty (Wharton School, 2015). To the contrary, businesses that pollute the environment face negative consequences because consumers boycott or decline buying their services and products. Similarly, businesses should give all people equal employment opportunities and desist from discriminating people on race and culture. Doing justice is, therefore, important in business because it is rewarding.
Business should also be role models of justice because they interact with many people in the society, including workers, consumers, the government, and suppliers. People can learn great lessons from businesses that conduct their operations or transactions in a just manner, especially those ranked as the world leading. Specifically, world leading businesses account for every action they take implying people can emulate such deeds. For example, people in their private lives should consider justice, especially when deciding what to do with their resources. The rich, for instance, can consider redirecting a portion of their wealth to people seeking justice (Wharton School, 2015). Similarly, businesses can help in creating a just society by initiating affirmative action. For example, American businesses can reserve certain employment positions to minority groups who, in the past, were unjustly discriminated due to their skin colour. In this manner, individuals and businesses create a just society where every person gets his or her right.
Why the interview was personally resonating
The interview was resonating because most people and businesses are profit-oriented without minding issues of social justice. The interview can help them recognize that doing business in just methods is important. Entrepreneurs should also recognize that observing the virtue of justice is crucial for business sustainability and overall success. Still, the interview emphasized that justice is a two-way process where people or business that are just being rewarded and vice versa (Wharton School, 2015). In this case, businesses should adhere to good business practices and help in correcting or solving past cases that were unjust. Overall, the interview was relevant to today’s highly competitive world where a person might not take the time to analyse the consequences of his or her actions.
Application of the interview
Every action has a positive or negative consequence. As a result, any person should desist from engaging in activities that are unjust. Activities that are just are heavily rewarded in a positive manner suggesting that I should only do what my society proclaims to be acceptable. I also have a responsibility to report what causes injustice to others as a way of preventing anarchy or social disorder. Further, I have learned that our society has a collective role in promoting justice by teaching the young ones accepted ways of behaving and acting in the workplace (Wharton School, 2015). For example, young people should be warned against engaging in corporate corruption because it denies other people many opportunities including working positions and quality products and services.
