The kids TV analysis is based on the cartoon programme “adventure time” which was aired on April 16th 2016. The code title for this episode thirty of season seven is “Lady Rainicorn of the Crystal Dimension”. The episode is set on T.V finding a hidden box which draws attention from Rainicorn. The episode is set in a green environment, showing the importance of conserving the nature. Children are made to realize the beauty that is created by the green environment. The plot is continuous and changes as the episode progresses. As the episode proceeds it is evident that the plot is a continuation of the previous episodes. The hilly nature of the episode makes it a place to be explored and is in line with the title adventure time. As T.V goes out to adventure he discovers the hidden box. The box attracts the attention of the Rainicorn who also wants the box. Conflict is made visible as their struggle for the box. The main characters in the episodes are Lady Rainicorn, T.V and Lee. The three characters appear throughout the episode. The bicycle that Lee drives has side wheels that allow it to float. T.V appears to be popular with music.
There is no much violence in the episode. There is just verbal violence that ensued between T.V and the Lady Rainicorn as he tried to keep the box away from her. The episode is elaborate and very good for children. From the episode children get to know that the furthest that they can go when annoyed by someone is verbal violence and not to engage physically. There are no cases of murder in the episode unlike other cartoon programs this episode has no form of violence in it hence can be very good to children. The episode teaches children to be able to get involved in a constructive argument. It also teaches children that it is not wrong to hide things from their partners. From the episode, it is not true to victimize anybody. Lady Rainicorn appears to be the victimized and she fights to get out of oppression.
T.V is the stereotype of the adult overweight. As a child he is very playful. The episode portrays the gender role in a bad way. Lady Rainicorn who is supposed to take care of her child, T.V, but she is not very concerned. The only thing that captures her attention is the hidden box that T.V manages to discover as the hidden box. The episode portrays her to be only concerned about the box and not her child. Lady Rainicorn represents the not so caring mothers. Her action and the point at which T.V captures her attention are inappropriate of a mother. T.V is the playful kid who can do anything. He is the representation of the fact that being different is not inability. Even though he cannot fly, he is still able to discover the hidden box. He also demonstrates that overweight is not inability. Though he is overweight, he can still manage anything because he believes in himself. His nature of exploring and adventuring makes it possible for the children to learn that they can benefit from the adventure. In the show T.V is accepted even though he is a hybrid. This represents how we can treat people of different races and ethnic groups in a good way.
Gender role is not clearly illustrated in the movie. Lady Rainicorn does not play very important role in the life of T.V. The episode brings out the females as the ones who should take care of children that is why the Lady Rainicorn is the one living with T.V and not his father Jake (Dines et Humez 2011). Despite the mother role in raising the child it seems Lady failed in her role and that is why T.V loves his father more. Children have the role to tell all their parents everything. That is why Lady Rainicorn gets annoyed when her son discovers the hidden box and tries to keep it away from her. The female role is evident in the episode more than male roles. Females are not much respected that is why T.V takes time to tell her mother about the hidden box.
The episode portrays the adults to be caring and trustworthy. Lady Rainicorn cares about T.V and that is why she gets upset when he does not tell him immediately about the hidden box. The show encourages children to inquire from their parents all the time this is because the adults may have more knowledge. The show portrays the adults to be very knowledgeable hence they should be told everything as they are trustworthy. From the program children learn to trust their parents and adults. Children get to realize that adults can tackle any situation effectively without involving any violence.
The show is generally good. The storyline and the characters make the show to be very lively. The graphics are clear representation of the world we are in. The graphics are good and makes the show to be real. The graphics are properly done. The soundtracks make the episode very lively. The sounds keep changing and predicting the occurrence of events. The sound alone is soothing and very entertaining. The director of the show did a very good job as the target audience seems to really enjoy the episodes. The children that were watching the movie alongside me seemed to really enjoy the episode. All the students remained very still and paid more attention to the show more than I have seen them do with anything before.
The major appeal of this movie is the character and the story. To children the characters behaviour and activities are very appealing and causes them great humour. They enjoy all the actions of the characters as almost all the moves make them happy. The storyline of the show is very funny and twisted. The turn of events makes the episode to be more of comedy hence very funny to all those who decide to watch. The children under the age of twelve do not need to read all the subtitles to enjoy the show. The animation also makes the characters appear in ways that are appealing to the children. The movement of the characters in their animation state is very appealing to children under the age of twelve.
The show is targeted at children under the age of twelve; it can be enjoyed even by adults. The level of humour may appeal to both the adults and the children as well. The children most likely enjoy the humor from the occurrence of an event. Adults will get humour from both the events and also the words spoken by different characters. The dialogue content of the movie is very mature and will greatly appeal to adults as well as children. The animation quality of the show is very high and will appeal to children more than adults. Most of the characters are very animated and appeal to kids more than adults.
Sponsorship issues
There were three commercials. One of the commercials was for food product, the other for the toys of that cartoon and the store where they could be found and finally a commercial of video games of the same show. The toys are worth having as they would make the children happy to play with. The direction to the stores where the toys are provided hence purchasing the toys is not a problem to them. The food product that was advertised during the program is very safe and inviting. Most children would request their parents to buy them the food product. The video games appear very interesting and the children will try their best to get the games and play them.
The toy product and the games are very relevant to the program. They are about the show. If I allow the children to watch the show that I have approved of, then there is no problem buying products that are related to the show. The show is continuous and once I have bought the toys for the children, they can still use them in the next season of the show. This will save me from buying toys for other episodes. The video games are entertaining and hence I can buy. The children have the right to play (Clement et Fiorentino 2004).
Critical reaction
The plug in drug argues that the TV shows that the children are allowed to watch are slowly leading them astray. The children programs poison their minds and they are likely to move astray. The critic on the programs that children are allowed to watch is good and true to some extent. Levin would argue that the fact that T.V did not tell her parent about the hidden box is disrespectful and children would start following the same action slowly until they start keeping secrets from their parents. The future of childhood critics on the type of movies that children are allowed to watch would not greatly criticize this show. It mainly focuses on violence which is not present in the episodes, hence the critics would lack any basis of criticizing the show.
The critic Mary states that TVs show has personalized things. She argues that the TV shows have made children to be very disrespectful and most of the things are based on gender. The critic is very right. In the show T.V does not respect her mother that is why he does not tell her about the hidden box immediately. The show is also very nice and quite difficult to criticize. The critic on the issue of gender is applicable. The female is portrayed to be very weak and disrespected. The society and the movie give women the role of taking care of their children. The Lady Rainicorn is able to take care of T.V. Her attention is further captured when T.V discovers the hidden box. One can also deduce that mothers are the ones concerned with their children's lives. In the social life male children who watch the show might not take part in the children raise up. They might end up leaving all the work of the child upbringing to the mother. They will only provide the financial support and nothing more.
The movie rating is TV-Y. There is no obscene content in the show. Any child can view the show without getting any bad idea. I can allow any child to view the series since there are no scenes that are not safe for the children. The children will get entertained by the movie and learn from the different events that surrounds the movie. Children under the age of seven should be advised by their parents as they watch the movie so that they cannot get the worst but the best of the movie.
I would allow my child to watch the show freely at the age of seven. At this age, I should have taught my children good morals and they could not easily be affected by the show. I would allow any child of above the age of seven to watch the show because they have a lot to learn from the show apart from just being entertained. I would not allow a child below the age of five to watch this show. This is because at this stage in life the children are learning more from their surroundings. They can easily try doing what they have seen in the show and risk getting hurt.
Part 2
It is true that what is aired by most channels is not appropriate for the family (Selznick 2008). Some of the programs are not good for children yet are aired during the family time. Most of the programs that are aired just before bedtime are movies that are good for the children. Surprisingly, most of the programs are actions that promote a lot of violence and obscene dressing codes. The action movies are not advised and most of the programs before they start advocating for the parental advisory or age discrimination. They label the age that should be allowed to watch the program. The only problem that the different channels have despite the age clearly shown before the programme starts is the time in which the program is aired. The cable products do not dedicate themselves to any friendly programs as compared to the free broadcasts. The free broadcast can be accessed by anybody hence the need for the friendly programs that they offer. However, cable channels involve subscription hence those who are subscribing should have the responsibility of those who are viewing. The cable channels ensure that those who are subscribed are adults and they provide means on how to control what children watch. Some allow the subscriber the opportunity to create PIN that will prevent children from accessing other programs.
