Introduction:
Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) was established in 1934 by Anglo-Persian Oil Company . The Chief Executive Officer of KOC is Hashem S. Hashem. KOC reportedly produced 2.9 barrels of oil per day in 2012 . The organization is a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and is deemed to be responsible for “exploration, drilling, production and transportation of hydrocarbon resources within Kuwait” . KOC does not belong to the world’s biggest oil and gas companies; but KPC ranked 9th . The organization’s headquarters is located at Ahmadi, Kuwait .

KOC’s operations are categorized under exploration, drilling, and production. In addition, its official website revealed that the organization is also involved “in the storage of crude oil and delivery to tankers for export” .
- Exploration
The exploration process of KOC focuses on safely exploring “for hydrocarbon in the state of Kuwait to maximize oil and gas reserves in a cost effective manner” . There are four group teams in KOC that undertakes the exploration process.
- Drilling
The drilling process is considered a major activity that is conducted in the most efficient and safe manner, as shown in the illustration below:

- Production
The production operation of KOC was reported to be undertaken from 12
developed oil fields in the state of Kuwait .

KOC Safety Structure:
KOC is highly committed to human health, safety, as well as the safety of the surrounding environment (HSSE) . Their management regularly tracts HSE performance through various indicators, including: lagging indicators (number of fatalities, lost time injury frequency rate, volume of spills, and environmental incidents) and leading indicators (site verification visits, safety observations and conversations, HSE trainings, Trend of Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate of KOC, and Trend of Total Recordable Injury Rate of KOC) . The commitment of management is attested through the KOC Health, Safety and Environment Policy that has been developed to ensure adherence to health and safety standards . Management’s commitment is evident from KOC’s Management Review Procedure as well as HSE Measures and Performance Procedures.
KOC Hazard Analysis Methods:
The organization undertakes risk assessment, as well as risk management and compliance . They have developed procedures for risk assessment and environmental impact assessment. These procedures and methods ensure that risks and hazards are appropriately identified, managed, and controlled.
