Arguably, Labor Day is one of the traditional holidays in United States of America. Labor Day takes place annually on the first Monday of September, it was originally celebrated and organized by various labor unions and association in order to contribute and strengthen the economy of United States. In fact, the holiday marks the end of summer season, as well as offering a chance to enjoy with friends and participate in various activities. The day was great, and gave each one of us a chance to prepare for the beginning of a new season. During this day, I participated in various activities together with my friend. Undeniably, most of the activities where focused in sustaining the environment as well as building the economy.
Labor Day is actually a federal holiday in United States. All government schools, organizations, offices, and most of the businesses do not operate. But, restaurants and supermarkets operate since many of the people celebrate and enjoy the day with friends. It is asserted that sustainability is only about taking care of our natural environment, it also entails economic and social impact of all the activities we do (Liebenthal, 2002). I began my Labor Day activities at the Starbuck to take some coffee, and carry out some cleaning, as well as undertake my personal studies for my final exam. The coffee at Starbuck was very delicious, amazingly the cups that are served with are environmentally friendly, and these reduce a lot of waste. The Starbucks restaurant was tremendously an environmentally sustainably place. The company utilized efficient source of power, this is attained through the use of renewable source of energy, leading to minimization of energy consumption, as well as lowering the impacts of energy in the planet. Perhaps, I participated in environmental sustainable activity by using an inexpensive, re-usable thermal cup that is offered at a certain discount to encourage people to use, but I used it at will.
Labor Day marks the end of the summer and the beginning of various seasons’ activities. After taking coffee at Starbucks, I went to help my friend who was moving out. As a matter of fact, moving out is decidedly hectic, and could cause a lot of pollution and damages. Moving out requires responsible and sustainable characters. I helped my friend to clean and arrange the house. The house was totally in mess; papers and many other wastes were spread in the entire floor (Liebenthal, 2002). This was not environmentally friendly, since the all area was dirty. We had to clean the house, and take all the dirt into the dust pins. In the 21st century, global warming and climate change is a threat, and cleaning the house and disposing dirt and garbage in the right place was a clear demonstration of an environmentally sustainable activity. The sustainability of the global environment begins and depends on the activities of human beings. At the begging of September, many people move out and in since the new session in schools, colleges and university begins. After the cleanliness in my friend’s house she went to the restaurant, since he works there.
It being a holiday, many groups had decide to visit the park, whereby many participated in field activities as children played their favorite activities. Many, people were throwing all sorts of food remains, papers and garbage in the park. I helped those responsible in cleaning the park. Perhaps, I informed various groups on the importance of putting garbage in the right place since it will affect us in future. In fact, I played with kids a game that was aimed at colleting litter and rushing it to the pins. The activities that most people were doing were not environmentally friendly, and could not lead to sustainability. The littering of the park is not environmentally sustainable. Despite the directions given in the park, individuals could not follow the instructions as stated. It is crucial to ensure that the environment is always kept clean, to avoid destroying hr human habitat. In fact, an environmental sustainable activity begins at individual level. I had a lot to read, and I decide to go back to the café to carry on with my study.
In developing nations, people celebrate national holidays depending on the culture, and age of individuals. Moreover, the national holiday carries various significance, which needs to be adhered to. An individual of my age could carry out a community service during the holiday. Whereby, he could join hands with friends to go and clean river banks whose drainage has been blocked by garbage, posing a risk factor to the environment. Perhaps, clean g of the river banks ensure water in the river flows well, reducing the risk hazards to plants, animals and human beings (Liebenthal, 2002). This activity is actually environmental sustainable for various reasons. Chemical free rivers are not only health for streams and rivers, but also important for the existence of wildlife and plants. The importance of water is immeasurable, and should always be taken care of. After the cleaning of riverbanks, the youth my age could plant trees along the river in order to protect the river, and its waters. These activities are sustainable to the entire globe. Thereafter, they could have fun through taking of soft drinks. Generally, the Labor Day holiday was fantastic, and with the activities of the day, I believe I worked towards achieving sustainable environment. We concluded the day by going to the supermarket and bought some beer, which we drunk, enjoyed and discussed on various issues.
