1.0 Introduction
The report considers the treatment of water that takes place at Lake Mary water treatment plant. Much of the discussion is based on the experience obtained while on a visit to the treatment plant. The report gives a firsthand information on the functionality of the water treatment plants while adding few insights from secondary sources. The report identifies the contaminants that are treated to ensure the water used by the community is safe for drinking so as to prevent risks of diseases. Contaminants from pharmaceutical products and personal care products are largely responsible for chemical contamination of the water which then makes the treatment operations to take a lot time. The report identifies the key contaminants that are regulated by various agencies so as to eliminate complaints from customers who get water from the service stations. Secondly, the report discusses the processes that take place to ensure the water is safe for domestic purposes. The report also discusses the amount to water that is pumped from the treatment plants as well as the sources of the water that is treated at the plant. The process involved in the treatment of water is also discussed to achieve the general view of how the treatment process occurs. With over 155 000 public water systems across the United States serving the population, there is need for improving the functionality of treatment plants to enhance long term sustainability.
2.0 Project description
The water treatment plants at Lake Mary is key to sustaining the lives of many people across the United States. With the need to supply high quality drinking water through conventional surface water treatment and ground water treatment, the plant is key to protecting the thirsty needs of locals. Portable water tanks are used to ensure that safe and clean water for drinking is availed to the service stations for purchase by customers. While relying on the portable water tanks, there is need to ensure that that only portable water is hauled into the tanks to avoid incidences of contaminations after treatment. However, there are contaminants that if not well considered could limit the success of the project. The contaminants include pharmaceutical and personal use products that contain a variety of chemicals. However, with the strict regulations in place, the plant is able to achieve a successful treatment through the process involving coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection to kill pathogens. The regulations are also key to ensuring that the public is responsible and accountable for disposal of contaminants into the water systems. Treatment plants need to be regularly checked to ensure there are maintenance operations to prevent the risks of corrosion, erosion and effects of external pressure on the infrastructure.
3.0 Methods
The method used to deliver high quality water for drinking from Lake Mary Water Treatment Plant involves collection of water from surface water as well as ground water. The surface water springs include water from upper Lake Mary and springs originating in the innermost basin of the exquisite San Francisco Crests. The ground water comes from Mary well field, the wells in the inner basin, the Woody mountain well, and well within the local city. The process that follows is the treatment process that involves the process of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection.
The water treatment plant is responsible for over 8 million gallons of water per day thereby proving its relevance in the community. The treatment operations are mostly focused on the need to remove contaminants including the pharmaceutical and personal care products that find their way into the water systems. Various Acts have made it possible to achieve the higher quality and safer water for drinking. The contaminants identified in the process include; arsenic compounds, asbestos, cyanide, fluoride, thallium, mercury amongst other contaminants whose concentration in treated water is closely monitored. After the water is treated, the portable water is hauled by the use of portable water tanks in efforts to ensure adequate supply of drinking water to the public.

4.0 Results
Water treatment process involves various steps that have to be carefully considered to achieve high quality water. This implies that there is need to ensure the stages of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection are followed to ensure contaminants are reduced to desirable level. The connections put in place need to ensure that ensure service stations are served with clean water for purchase by the public. The public is able to purchase water from portable water tank stations where customers subscribe to the services. The distribution system spans almost one million miles where the infrastructure used is monitored to ensure there are no upsets in the system. Factors such as corrosion, erosion and external pressures affect the distribution systems hence creating the need for maintenance of the physical infrastructure. Deterioration of the system leads to breaches in pipes and storage facilities and major breakdowns that in turn disrupt supply of safe drinking water to the public.

Lake Mary water treatment plant offer the communities’ great opportunity to have access to clean and safe water at their preferred service stations. The regulations put in place to ensure there are no contaminants in the water treated are key to ensuring that the public gets to enjoy only safe water throughout the year. There is also need to ensure that there are appropriate distribution systems with proper maintenance operations to ensure water is available at all times and avoid incidences where there are major breakdowns in water supply. The requirements for portable water to be only hauled in portable water tanks is key to ensuring that the service stations have enough supply of water throughout the year.
