Law enforcement code of ethics
The law enforcement code of ethics is set of rules, which are created to govern the conduct of police officers. This document provides advice also provide standard against which we measure work. Police officers are supposed to adhere to these rules, which help them to behave well. However, a large number of cops have ignored these rules and therefore, broken them. An example of this is where they get to receive reduced price meal, and the other thing is the price reduction from the business owners. This is corruption which most of these cops are doing. According to LECE, this action is immoral because the business owners get preferential treatment in return from the cops. If another police officer reports this act, then there will be a lot of resentment, which will be generated within the police subculture (Barker, 2011, p. 45).
The problem, which might occur, is that officers will never report on one another even when others are performing serious crimes. This allows corrupt police to remain in the police force when they should be fired. Police will never report because they might lose their jobs. Tattling officer is an outcast from his colleagues. In this case, they have to compare the importance of their career against the crime he has seen performed by his colleagues. Always the profession will win (Barker, 2011, p. 48).
The two different ethical codes will depend on what the police officer will understand and apply; this will contribute on how the public will look at the role of law enforcement. If the police officer applies the cop cod, then they may not trust the law enforcement. However, if the police officer follows the proper ethical, code then the public will trust the law enforcement and therefore, they can carry out their daily activities (Barker, 2011, p. 52).
