No Easy Day: The Autobiography of a Navy SEAL
After having been published in 2012, the book titled No Easy Day: The Autobiography of a Navy SEAL by Mark Owen with co-author Kevin Maurer became a very popular work dedicated to the Navy Seals. Mark Owen was a member of the US Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU). He took part in the mission dedicated to the elimination of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, 2011. Moreover, Owen was a team leader of the unit responsible for the death of bin Laden. Kevin Maurer was involved in military special missions for nine years. So, the experience of both authors became very useful for the current military memoir.
One part of the book depicts the life of Owen in Alaska in chronological order and his strong wish to be a Seal. He wrote in detail the whole severities of his DEVGRU entry, as well as told the stories about some operations he participated in with his unit in Afghanistan and Iraq. Besides, Mark has also told about his partaking in the Maersk Alabama hijacking rescue operation. The military memoir brightly brings into focus the high professionalism, team spirit and dedication to work of his teammates during especially hard training and break-neck combat missions.
Another part of the book describes in tiny details the mission targeted Osama bin Laden. Owens underlined, he was one of the military men who saw the death of the Islamic terrorist leader. A group of Navy Seals was sent with a raid to kill ben Laden to stop fearful terrorist attacks. A 45-minute firefight turned into a horror movie with mess and victims. Nevertheless, the Seals, whose skills, sacrifices, experiences and talents brought them to one of the greatest victories in the War on Terror. So, Owen has honored the males who risked everything for their country.
Thus, in the months following the combat mission, Mark retired and started to write his book with Kevin Maurer, a former journalist. The military memoir went on sale on the fourth of September, 2012, just a week before the eleventh anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Moreover, Owen decided to donate a great part of money received from the sale to the families of the Seals killed in that mission.
The book No Easy Day: The Autobiography of a Navy SEAL is about the importance of initiative, courage and dependability of Navy Seals; that is why, it should be surely included in the Marine Corps commandant's reading list.
