The scope of the word leadership entails to both private and collective life. It may be incorporated in a small sized project or it may be associated with the guidance and administration of the full fledged organization or a community in its own capacity. Leader is like the captain of the ship who steers the ship through different situations and guides it towards the destination.
There are certain prerequisites that come along the concept of leader and leadership. The first and foremost is the participative element. A leader must be in tact with the team members, and there must not be any gulf in between the members and the team lead. The second condition is that of the grip on subject and knowledge possession by the leader himself. Lack of knowledge thereby would result in failure and lack of insight. This would lead to non actual visualization of the tasks and objectives at hand.
A leader may follow various modes of actions towards the accomplishment of the task. A leader may follow the pattern of authoritarian style with too much dominance and complete authority on the entire resources and other necessary decisions. A leader may facilitate the members of the team in a participative process with equal participation and complete coherence and understanding between the members. A leader may also adopt a leissez faire mode of leadership where the members enjoy full authority and freedom with regard to the decision making and have access to all the resources and other necessary elements that are required for proper functioning. The outcome of the project or organization is largely subject to the effective performance of the team lead.
