Question 1. Identify several common sense notions about leadership.
Leadership is obviously important if any organization is to survive accordingly First and foremost, a manager in any organization has substantial problems in making his/her presence felt if he/she is not assertive and motivational towards staff. The manager is always the person to whom everyone turns when there is some sort of trouble brewing and this means that he/she has to have capabilities to motivate staff to do their job with the least amount of blemish possible. This is also true from the client’s perspective as if there are bottlenecks in operation, these may result in problems of an intrinsic nature which may hamper the patients in their cure and period of recovery. Most important of all however, managers have to learn how to delegate as this will mean that they can concentrate on the bigger picture whilst letting others do the smaller jobs and tasks for them. Delegation is definitely a hugely important function, in any setting as this means that those who are overseeing management of operations can observe the wider range of activities and plan accordingly while those who have been delegated the tasks can perform them properly and to their heart’s content. When a manager keeps all the important tasks to him/herself, the situation becomes ever more problematic and the bottlenecks which arise mean that the hospital or healthcare setting will not function accordingly and this will eventually mean that the whole system will collapse with the predictably bad results.
Question 2. What do you find personally satisfying or dissatisfying at work and how would you make it more satisfying? What theory of job satisfaction best explains your actions?
Since I work in a large organization, there are several ways in which I find my motivation and personal satisfaction. There is a lot of discussion at work and if a job is undertaken then there is always a lot of teamwork involved. Occasionally I feel demotivated as I do not discuss a lot with others on the job. However this enables me to take my own decisions and is also a factor in the way I get my motivation which is not always successful admittedly but more often than not this intrinsically occurs. The theory of financial motivation is the one which I definitely find the most attractive in this regard and is the one which best explains my actions which can always be described as genuine as well as moving forward in this respect.
Question 3. Discuss how downsizing can give impact towards subject matter expertise in the organization.
Downsizing is never something which should be done lightly but it is a necessary evil if a company or organization is to survive accordingly. Some employees who would be contributing to the company in a lesser manner than others will find themselves without much option but to leave and this may lead the company to specialise in certain sections which beforehand were perhaps not too important. Downsizing can also open up new vistas as work which nominally took much longer to create will now have to be created in a faster manner with less employees. Subject matter expertise is always important in this respect and this intrinsically means that downsizing although it is initially a negative experience can provide a fruitful conclusion.
