Based on the scores on the leadership traits from the questionnaire, both my strongest and weakest leadership traits have been magnificent. The first strong trait I exhibit is integrity. It is because of the high levels of trustworthiness and honesty that I use in handling every situation. Besides, I have a set of guiding principles while also taking responsibility for each action that I undertake. (Northouse 27) Another strong leadership trait that I harbor is determination. This is as a result of the focus and attention that I often give to the tasks at hand. With this, I have the propensity of persevering during challenges that are in most cases experienced when undertaking tasks. Some common aspects of determination include initiative, persistence, and also drive. These are elements that I have in most cases exhibited in my work and performance. On the other hand, my weakness is friendliness. It is a trait that befits a friend. It is my weakest because I have the propensity for only being open and free to those that we have something in common and have already shared a lot between us.
A leader that I could model myself into is Nelson Mandela. From the bio video, it has been stated that when Mandela was released from captivity after serving twenty-seven years, he was determined not to be vindictive or even angry but to promote the unity of his country, South Africa that had long suffered from apartheid. Nelson Mandela is the most appealing because he endured enormous challenges just to see that his people were free. The first trait from him that I can incorporate into my own style of leadership is the use of emphasis, as well as, persuasion for convincing others. Through this, one can learn to control his strong will and temper just as he did. The other trait I can incorporate is the aggression that Nelson Mandela used in fighting for the liberation of his people (Northouse 28). It can be incorporated in tackling the issues and challenges that are facing my followers. In conclusion, the above article has discussed reflection question one and action question one in relation to recognition of personal traits.
