Daniel Pink in his book “A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future”, tells the readers concerning converging forces that change how we are required to think. Moreover, he presents tangible descriptions of the rudiments of new opinions and thoughts. He also provides a portfolio of wherewithal at each chapters end. These portfolios are responsible for changing how we think. Therefore, this essay will relate what Daniel Pink states in his book to real life issues.
Pink starts his book by stating that the future will depend on creativity, the ability to create emotional beauty and the ability to find happiness within oneself. This is a quality that rules even today. For example, I will look at Oprah Winfrey. Oprah is one of the most popular reality talk show hosts in America. Additionally, she owns cable TV channels and a popular magazine, Forbes magazine rates her as the 9th most powerful female in the world, she is an Academy Award appointment receiver and the first black American woman to be listed as a billionaire since 2003. Actually, we can say that Oprah is rising because of art and creativity. She is built by being an actress, philanthropist, business woman and a talk show host. According to the world report and US news, what makes Oprah unique is the effect within her that allows connection with women of all walks of life. Besides, she conducts extensive research and prepares well that she is able to tackle most conversation issues. Just as Pink predicted, in today’s world, true, radio hosts, brand managers, graphic designer, authors and people who are in other artistic jobs are becoming more important and popular Just as Oprah . People talk about these careers with passion.
Secondly, Pink warns that persons whose work can be cast away quickly, outsourced, or computerized should be worried or change their field. Moreover, he suggests that the future jobs will entail creative careers, and activities that focus on the human touch and innovation. I will still give an example in relation to Oprah Winfrey. First, Oprah is paid very highly with entertainment. Moreover, she handles social tribulations all around the world with the purpose of making both herself and the world better. Many people appreciate her efforts and intelligence. Additionally, Oprah has established many scholarship programs for many persons yet she is just an artist. The effect Oprah has had on television is so great that many others like shows have come up and the hosts are just as popular as Oprah, for example, Taira Banks (Schlosser, 1997). Thus, it is clear that creativity and activity is bringing forth lasting opportunities just as Pink predicted. Another reason to why Pink is right is what is happening in my organization. Many persons have been retrenched because their work can be done faster and effectively using a computer. First, the staff who could deal with data analysis does not have a job anymore. This is so because today, data is simply fed into the computer and the end results are acquired. Machines also do lifting of heavy loads and moving items from one point to the other in my company.
Additionally, we do not need someone to distribute tea, water or snacks as vending machines have replaced them and they make work more easy and convenient. On the other hand, my friend John, whom we went to school together but was very good in football, is currently living large. All he needs to do is train hard and he is assured of an income. Mary who could write and read articles in the assemblies is also growing every day. She is currently an auditor for the leading Newspaper in the country and many people admire her and get to talk about her. Thus, the most important functions of the right brain according to Pink are six “senses” which are meaning, play, empathy, symphony, story and design. These skills make a professional work of an individual more desirable and unique which are very imperative investments in the economic climate.
Thirdly, Pink recognizes the essence of storytelling since it involves the ability to emotionalize, contextualize, and encapsulate. Pink applauses the doctors attempt to include narrative in medicine with the aim of improving doctor-patient relationship. Moreover, he says that stories are a bridge for business persons to reach their customers. In day to day life, storytelling still roles. In the hospital set up, dentists attached to children use stories a lot to entice these children to partake a certain required medication. Persons in the dental school have also formed a forum in the social media, that is, face book and twitter where they share experiences and learn from each other through stories. Additionally, stories told through pictures are employed a lot in advertising hence a powerful tool. There are many boards along the roads and major halls which bare advertisements. Additionally, televisions are used to communicate these picture stories too (Daniel, 2007). Indeed, a person who can write a story has a future as they are embraced. Next, stories are told through films. We get to visit the cinema and appreciate the artists yet they are making a living. Showbiz is actually a big thing today that is admirable, prestigious and believed to have a lot of money.
What do classical music conductors, inventors, painters, and entrepreneurs have in common is exercising symphony. Art is appreciated even more with every passing day and it gains prestige and value. Art is used today to communicate powerful massages. In my organization, there are many wall hangings, each with a unique meaning or message. They all seek to communicate one thing or another. According to Pink, the ability to synthesize is what is referred to as symphony and not the ability to analyze. This is a skill that enhances viewing of the bigger picture and enhancing relationships. In fact, he says drawing is a strong relationship connector (Daniel, 2007). Next, Pink goes ahead to encourage people to listen to classical music, brainstorm and think of new problems solutions since it is a means of survival in today’s world. He encourages so because he believes the mind as the power to connect ideas that seem desperate. Through art, artists are able to communicate powerfully, protect the week, advocate for the oppressed, and applause for achieves.
In conclusion, pink encourages originality and creativity in many ways. He encourages people to collect videos, pictures and photographs, visit festivals, museums, and conferences, study industry books and magazines, and keep notebooks of both good and bad as this way one can create an employment. Today, many people, especially prominent persons, aspire to write journals before death. This is not only as a way of self- fulfillment but a way of telling a story. These journals are sold to many. Next, other persons collect notes on a subject for a period of time and either writes a newspaper article or a book. These persons are most cherished and talked about a lot. Thus, careers built from creativity are bound to grow in today’s world, which is, characterized with unemployment. Lastly, I would recommend this book by Pink to any other individual any time. This is so because despite the fact that the book was written long time ago, it is still very relevant to our day to day lives.
