Steve Jobs always emphasized on listening to the employees and in giving them liberty to freely express their ideas. This approach helped Apple in developing new innovative technologies that is core competitive advantage of the Apple. Leaders, who have effective listening ability, respect for others ideas, always keep communication two ways which formed healthy relationship with their employees, Effective listening ability develops trust, encourage employee’s creativity and keep them satisfied. Effective listening of leaders not only builds healthy relationship but also develops competitive advantages which help in realizing organizational goals.
Leaders can communicate more effectively by carefully listening others with kindness and can understand their feelings and exact idea behind their words. Interpreting is a good way to make employees realize that they were being heard and understood carefully. Leaders can develop various ways to effectively communicate and listen to the employees. Leaders should meet its employees on certain interval to resolve their issues, problems, queries and to make them aware about any new development taking place in the organization. Employees should also be involved in any important decision making process hence, before taking any decision leader should seek their ideas as well. Involvement in decision making process makes employees feel closer to the leader and responsible towards any decision, taken by the organization. Periodicals are also a good way to keep employees updated about company’s activities and industrial news.
After above analysis it can be said that relationship between leadership ability and listening ability of leader, is very strong. Leader, who understands and cares for its employees, develops a strong bonding with them, and helps in realizing organizational objectives. Listening ability of leader also help in keeping employees well informed on all activities and decisions which makes them more productive and committed towards organizational goals.
