I believe that leadership can be seen as a business process based on its definition, “leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others towards the achievement of a goal” (Kruse, 2013). Therefore, in the company, leadership may be viewed as a business process which serves for motivation of employees, setting goals and choosing the direction of where the company should go and what it needs to achieve. Leadership is not about titles or hierarchy of positions. As a business process may be defined as “an activity or a set of activities that will accomplish a specific organizational goal” (“Business Process,” n.d.), the term ‘leadership’ can have identic one. An organization can quantify the performance of its leadership by empowering leaders to make decisions and to guide followers. Leadership should be supported, not suppressed. As soon as all the conditions for leaders are done, a firm will witness a significant increase in its performance.
Governance cannot be associated with leadership. It is defined as “the system of rules, practices and processes by which a company is directed and controlled” (“Corporate Governance,” n.d.). A strong governance system will ensure the maintenance of the order and distribution of the responsibilities among employees. Moreover, it will establish corporate culture and specific rules, derogation from which can invoke fines or other punishment. The governance system is needed to ensure that the company’s aim is to observe the stakeholders’ interests to the best of its ability and serve the mission and vision statements. Moreover, governance may include internal controls that are aimed at checking employees’ diligence, commitment and discipline.
