The main purpose of the article is to identify the key aspects of the leadership skills that every nurse should have. According to the article, it is pivotal for the nurses to adopt a wide range of leadership behaviors and characteristics. It states that adopting these skills, nurses may have a great effect on their role in medicine. Clearly, in order for the nurse to be successful, it is also important to be able to cooperate and adapt to a new team. The main leadership characteristics that every nurse should have are: collaboration with coworkers, caring environment, great support and respect. Additionally, the authors point out that it is important to ensure improvements in patient experience (Cornwell, & Goodrich, 2009). According to them, the main goal of every medical institution is to ensure that every patient has a satisfying experience.
There are several factors that influence stress and burnout among nurses, which are situational factors and individual factors. Situational factors include the following situations: lack of time, conflicts in the workplace and lack of recognition. Meantime, individual factors are: self-esteem levels and age. Clearly, leadership skills are beneficial for nurses because they help to become resilient to the stressful environment that almost every nurse is surrounded with. The other point made in the article is the importance of leadership skills development for medical workers. In fact, it is pivotal for nurses, regarding their position, to have decent communication skills and the ability to cooperate in stressful environment. Lastly, the article discusses the importance of education, personal factors and cultural factors in clinical practice. Therefore, leadership skills are important for nurses because they help to escape stressful situations, to adapt quickly to the new environment and to be respected by others.
