Riverbend refers to a residential area in the south of Calgary Alberta. The locality has a population of 9682 individuals. With the population increasing adversely due to the immigrants going in the area, various challenges have loomed in, and they are the following:
• Housing calamity: population growth has led to increased demand for houses since the households in the locality have to shelter themselves. The number of young professionals requiring smaller homes is more than the houses available since the region has embarked on the supply of single household homes rather than rental houses that can accommodate more people.
• Inadequate financial, technical and skilled labor resources: For any area to develop there is the need for adequate capital investment. Finances and availability of skilled labor facilitate investment in a region. In the locality, there is an inadequate capital resource since most of the occupants of the area are semi-skilled, and the laborers from the region prefer to work in the nearby urban centers leaving the region under-endowed.
• Limited planning expertise and capacity: Authorities delegated with the duty of planning and designing the location tends to overlook some critical aspects of the area such as natural areas and open space. In any region people need to enjoy the natural environment and development plan should not be made if they tend to disrupt the natural ecosystem(Rosenbloom 1-17). Sovereignty and uniqueness or the identity of a locality needs to be preserved while plans are actualized such that the features are retained and visible even after the execution of the operation.
Rural area and natural ecosystem should be developed in a smart way such that the benefits from the projects on those areas are evident as well as retaining the original positive aspects of the phenomenon.
