It was interesting to read your response about Helicobacter Pylori (H-Pylori). I found another book (Boyanova, Mitov & Vladimirov, 2011), which describes the morphology of the bacteria as spiral-shaped. It is a gram-negative bacteria that inhabits the human gastric system. The structure of its lipopolysaccharide layer along with its Krebs cycle pathway indicate that the bacteria is highly adapted to the cell lining of the gastric system. Its discovery was made by two scientists in an Australian hospital. The scientists cultured the bacteria and infected themselves with it leading to gastritis. Other scientists over the years have made significant progress in research about the morphology, diagnosis and treatment of the bacteria (Suzuki, Warren & Marshall, 2016).
Treatment options for H-Pylori include the use of different combinations of antibiotics such as erythromycin and amoxicillin. Your response agrees with (Boyanova, Mitov & Vladimirov, 2011, p. 237) that the proton pump inhibitor is a first line treatment option for H-Pylori patients. Patient compliance plays a significant role in the eradication of the bacteria.
The duration of H-Pylori treatment is a controversial subject. Your response is in agreement with physicians’ seven days treatment recommendation. On the other hand, scientists think that a fortnight’s treatment plan may increase chances of bacteria eradication by five percent. However, physicians must compare this increased eradication percentage with the risk of side effects such as allergic reactions and also drug resistance (British Columbia, 2009)
