Self-discovery is the journey to which one gains knowledge of their character and understanding of feelings and abilities. Christian ministry leaders should encourage disciples in the path of self-discovery (Gaiser, 2010). The journey is important as it enables a person to identify their purpose in life. Digging deep into past experiences reveals instances that mold a person. The benefits of self-discovery include enlightenment, clarity, fulfillment, and happiness.
Self-discovery nurtures personal growth in the different ways people think, learn and perceive the world. However, the journey is usually challenging. It involves misunderstanding, fear, confusion, and doubt. It involves decision making that makes or break relationships. Through this journey, a person finds out about themselves and their uniqueness.
Individuals possess unique gifts that may be different to others for service. This may yield to dichotomy as every gift is equally important (Gaiser, 2010). Ministry leaders should resolve this as the primary purpose of the gift is to generate unity and maturity amongst the individual. No gift is universal.
The responsibility of every individual is to relate in a mature manner with other members to build up the whole community. Despite the incredible diversity in the church, the same spirit dwells in all. Each gift has much value as the other, and its use is to be for love for others. The gifts are of no value unless performed in love.
Resolving this dichotomy brings about the unity of the whole church. Unity encourages development and prosperity of the church. It yields love of every member of the church. The gifts get the right environment to develop much more. Minor setbacks may involve losing members who consider their gift to be more important than the others.
