Introduction
Payton College Preparatory High School needs to implement new computer hardware to sustain the needs of its students. Precisely, the current number of computers is insufficient for all the students within the school. Additionally, the departmental interconnectivity within this academic institute is not exemplary. As such, this situation affects the communication efficiency between the staff members and the students. There is a need to purchase new computers, power interruption solution, networking hardware, and necessary academic software to aid in the student’s academic endeavors. Since the institution has some computers already, additional units need to be purchased to complement the effectiveness of the current hardware. Finally, copies of Microsoft Office need to be purchased to facilitate the completion of academic assignment among the students and teachers. 50 computer units, an equal amount of Microsoft Office package licenses and proper networking hardware are required for the achievement of this goal.

Rationale
I believe the above-selected hardware would meet the needs of this academic institution. According to Dell US (n.p), organization computing solutions need to be energy efficient and economically friendly. Since the students mostly engage in simple word processing tasks, internet browsing, and other assignment completion activities, the computers need to have just enough processing powers to meet the students need. A desktop with 4th gen Core i3 processor is the most appropriate solution for this institution since it consumes lesser power than the previous generation Pentium processors. These CPUs have integrated video card solutions thereby eliminating the need for purchasing separate GPUs. Moreover, it utilizes the same processor socket as most of the current gen microprocessors, and this gives room for future system upgrading. Since medium multi-tasking would be done by the students, about 4GB of ram is more than sufficient to meet their needs. Since the desktop computers come with a preinstalled copy of Windows 7, the operating system would utilize about 1.5GB to run system processes. This leaves 2.5GB free primary storage volume for the students’ academic endeavors.
500GB of secondary storage is more than sufficient to meet the needs of the student population handling the units. Settling for slower hard disk drives instead of the modern solid state drives is a feasible alternative since it minimizes the cost of acquiring the units. Additionally, the processes that are frequently done by the student’s do not need fast read and write speeds making HDDs the most appropriate solution. Finally, this desktop has an optical drive thereby eliminating the need to purchase an external one. The monitor size and resolution is sufficient for the students’ population. Since size is an influential factor as many units need to be fitted in few rooms, this monitor size strikes the balance between good form factor and excellent productivity. With a 1080p resolution, opening multiple windows would be possible for the students making it easier for them to complete their tasks. The students would use the bundled mouse and keyboard since they are standard for the kind of tasks that needs to be done with the students. Uninterruptible Power Supplies would be required to prevent data loss in case of power failure within the institution (Amazon.com n.p). Microsoft Office is the best choice for academic software since if offers a comprehensive solution to productivity software. Utilizing the Office 365 alternative is the most influential solution for this institution as it minimizes the software acquisition costs (Microsoft n.p). Also, additional routers would be used to connect the extra computers to the school network. Through this provision, the students will be able to access internet services to complete their assignments easily. Moreover, this connection would enhance better communication between the school departments. As such, the proposed software and hardware will meet the requirements of the Payton College Preparatory High School.
