“Leadership Skills: Qualities of a Great Leadership”, is an informative video, in which an individual shares what makes the qualities of a great leader. Now, the five qualities that make a leader are as follows: leading, listening, learning, loving, and losing with grace. Now, while the individual in the video goes into detail about each of the five essential traits of being a leader, it is more important to reply to Response#2 and Response#3. Now, response#2 does an efficient job at defining the traits of being a leader, just like in the video. However, I would have gone into more detail for some of the points. For example; just like the video, response#2 says that when it comes to being a leader, sometimes you must lead from the back. However, what is the more essential aspect to focus on here, is focus on how leading from the back will impact people in a more positive manner. As Bishop (2013) states, “Being an authentic leader is tantamount to little more than being true to oneself or being who you profess to be. “The idea of ‘being true to oneself’ has manifested itself in of the form of authentic leadership” (p.1).
As for response#3, the way that the individual defines the attributes of what it means to be a leader, hold true to what it means to lead. When an individual does guide others, they need to think about how they should lead and how that will affect people for better or for worse. In other words, when being a leader, listening is an essential attribute. Those following the individual should be able to express their thoughts on things that they like or dislike certain methods or tactics. For the concept of learning, leaders also need to take time to better develop themselves into having a stronger character. For love, leaders need to be tough but caring as well, and this is also where encouragement comes in. In other words, losses should not be blamed on a single individual, but they should be used a focus for the whole team to improve. Overall, response#3 did an efficient job at defining essential leadership traits. And overall, the essential task of leadership should always be about improvement. As said in “Leadership: Theory and Practice”, the attributes of leadership should be beneficial to the team (Northouse 101).
