Being an international student at the Eastern Kentucky University pursuing my major in Elementary Education, have experienced a different learning environment in this institution as opposed to my native nation, Saudi Arabia. The most dominant difference is based on how the education system operates in Kentucky as compared to Saudi Arabia. For starters, there is a variance in the overall hierarchy of leadership and role division as opposed to my native country. Additionally, Learning from Abroad showed me that problems existed everywhere regardless of the economy of the nation. Initially, I thought the American education system is unflawed due to its important education policies. Nonetheless, this is not the case as its current reforms have undergone continuous implementation to enhance their effectiveness. The constant reorganizations made towards the betterment of this system have improved the quality of education offered in this nation and the overall student’s experience at the academic institutions. For a fact, the United States education system has undergone continuous changes to augment its performance and overall quality of teaching offered.
Numerous changes have been made to enhance equality in the academic institutions. The reforms made were focused on tackling issues of racism and the socioeconomic gaps that existed in the education systems. According to the research conducted by the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study, the overall experience embraced by international students has been made better as opposed to the previous century (Chiesa, Scott, and Hinton, 2012). As such, the education system has embraced greater levels of success due to the excellent levels of equality to students. According to Levin, Schwartz, and Gomoran (2014), the reforms made towards the betterment of the education system were based on structural factors rather than personal factors. As such, notable differences cannot be done literally while evaluating the evolution of the school system in this nation. However, my overall experience at the Eastern Kentucky University has been appealing.
Learning from abroad made me appreciate the differences in the education systems across the globe. Specifically, student performance in different countries varies because of the nature of academic policies. To augment the knowledge of the students, instructors need to initiate effective teaching approaches to creating a conducive learning environment for the students. In my experience, the management of the institution I learn at does its best to enhance proper implementation of teaching policies. As such, the impact on the students is more constructive.Owing to the fact that education is the key to success, my experience as an international student has exposed me to the possibilities of being a top achiever as a result of being exposed to a healthy learning environment.
Furthermore, this experience has also helped me gauge my mind and helped me solve more complex social problems I have encountered. I can confidently state that my leadership skills have improved a great deal. This is attributed to the school’s ability to focus on all students regardless of their field of study with the aim of building their leadership skills. Arguably, the employment of young teachers within the education has helped a great deal in improving the school system towards the betterment of every individual inclusive of students in Kentucky.
The awareness of the fact that every student can be a good performer has made the school focus on building more motivation and support programs. According to (Levin, Schwartz, and Gomoran, 2014), support in an education system is one of the fundamental building blocks that lead to an excellent performance from the students. Its success is hinged upon careful management and distribution when it comes to the support structure. Every student’s success is the success of the whole school. Therefore, this has led to the formation of small groups of individuals who may be having a rough time catching up with the other students. Personally, the setting up of these structures have helped me have helped me achieve more than I previously could. However, this has not been an easy road as it has been coupled with many challenges. One of the biggest problems is where a student or students do not feel the need to change for the betterment of their academics (Chiesa, Scott, and Hinton, 2012). High expectations and extensive input massively directed towards the student may not be a solution to real improvement if the student is not willing to have better grades.
Overall, education systems experience challenges in balancing the kind of training offered to the students. According to (Levin, Schwartz, and Gomoran, 2014), effective education policies should encompass the development of students both ethically and academically. As such, it is imperative that the education system diversifies the nature of its training to foster the collective growth of the students. The impact should be in all sectors in order to build a student to be even brighter. In any case, focusing on one area does not lead to the full intellectual growth of a student in all aspects. With this in mind, it is worth appreciating the fact that my facilitators decisively, consciously and critically evaluate every student's performance in our class in order to develop and improve every student. Therefore, I have been able to overcome many academic hurdles I had in the past due to this. In turn, this education aids in the neutralization fo global challenges such as poverty, global warming and much more. Many students from humble backgrounds that have been affected by their performance in school have found this to be a safe ground and ultimately have graduated from the institution as better individuals. This has encouraged me to push on to the limit and exhaust all my potential thus leaving no reserved energy.
In conclusion, there’s an effective education system in the USA, which can be made more effective by involving all stakeholders who have a part to play in the school system. Starting from educators who have their hand in developing their students to the government, which has the influence in the creation of policies that will make the education system more productive. Considerably, the change or improvement of these factors should be would result in the betterment of the scheme. A good system should be able to satisfy the need of every individual student, especially in states where they put less effort in providing excellent schools for all students. From my learning experiences in the United States, I have appreciated the importance of having a stable education system and the inevitability of experiencing problems regardless of a nation’s economy. As such, every school system should be hinged on the development of global change. For a fact, the United States education system has undergone continuous changes to augment its performance and overall quality of education offered.
