DEWA launches the first smart innovative entertainment platform in the region
I am writing this memo to address an initiative launched by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), which is titled “Happiness” and addresses a new community social responsibility in Emirates. It was presented on September 3rd 2015and plans to create a smart innovative entertainment platform as the first of its kind in the region that would focus on turning people’s kinetic and mechanical energy from exercise into electricity. The platform comprises of three sections that represent the production of energy, its use, and the rational use of energy. Moreover, this platform will also have knockouts for children that run on the energy produced from physical activities on the recreational equipment by their accompanying parents and guardians.
DEWA has been investing in such projects that go along with the goal of the Dubai city for 2021. The key factor behind the success of this project is the support that Dubai ruler provides to all sectors to share the big goal of this city.
On the other hand, DEWA is fully aware that change always comes with every single individual. Therefore, it is important to start with personal awareness, attitudes, analysis of thoughts and practice, finishing with meaningful and valuable action. The area will feature a corner dedicated to environmental awareness and promotion of culture of conservation in entertaining and educational ways that are accessible to everyone, especially the young. DEWA has created a movement that will make noteworthy impacts in the generations to come. However, this new project might face some potential challenges:
Increased pressure to fulfill promises and diversify participants.
Overdependence on the UAE market, which could result in insufficient funding and CSR’s incentive cancellation.
Furthermore, I recommend the following response strategy:
Facilitate rewards or encouragements to all businessmen, who would like to apply same idea at their organization. For example, tax deductions or award ceremonies dedicated to recognize someone’s efforts.
Release news articles overviewing the initiative, its goals, and its current progress.
Focus on bigger markets in the gulf area by sending them news articles, press releases, etc., where they will see success stories, current progress, and future advancement of the CSR incentive. This approach, both locally and globally, can be adapted to meet the needs of different communities. In this case, DEWA’s project will become not only secure, but well known as well.
Still, this promotion of the CSR incentive is a definite victory for a governmental company. Even if they do not see significant enlargement in future, DEWA has a unique opportunity to impact the world.
I really appreciate what DEWA tried offering to communities in order to create lasting change in a CSR world. Authorities in DEWA have gone above and beyond most organizations by reaching out to have-nots. This supports social responsibility, spreads a culture of physical activity and positive energy among all members of society to create a better tomorrow for future generations. It is not every day that we see local sector stepping-up to facilitate drastic change. Despite the challenges, DEWA managed to introduce this new concept, which is now becoming a trending topic across the GCC!
