Becky Thompson purports to present real chronology of the second wave feminism in her article. She focus on the fact that women of colour purported to be equal to men in their right. By the way of providing strong arguments, Thompson points out the poor and one-sided understanding of this movement by popular sources. (Thompson, 2002) She emphasizes that feminists of the "second wave" also understood that various forms of cultural and political inequality of women are inextricably linked. They urged women to realize that certain aspects of their personal life are deeply politicized and reflect sexist power structures.
The authour challenges the common story of the second way feminism by stating that the litany does not recognize the central role of women of colour during the second phase of feministic movement. Thompson defines the revival of the women's movement as the struggle for civil rights of the coloured people in United States. According to the authour, the movement coincided with left student movement of the West and the campaign against the Vietnam war. (Thompson, 2002) Moreover the author denies that the feminism reaches back the publication of Betty Friedan saying that the first feminist organization of the second wave is Chicana group established by coloured women. The argumentation line is based on the real facts making the ideas of the author to sound more convincing. She digs deeper in order to represent the feminist movement in its true sense avoiding direct statements of personal thoughts.
The article presents important source of information that is likely to be helpful in s answering research question. The general methodology applied by the authour provide important theoratical base. It is clear that theoretical concepts of feminist authors have had significant impact on all humanities. Political practices of feminist movements have greatly changed not only consciousness in society, but public policy. That is why the right understanding of feminist movement provided by Thompson is so important for further studies.
