There are top three events that influenced my generation to great extend. The first is
terrorist attacks of 9/11. Never before I have seen how cruel people can be to each other. Also I remember how this tragedy united American society. I remember those lines of people who came to memorials to show their respect and grant condolences. The second event I put into this list because of my conversations with parents and especially grandparents. Barack Obama as a first Afro-American president of United States became a symbol of new era, where are equal opportunities for everyone, regardless race, gender or religion. The last of Top-three events, is Mars exploration rover mission. I remember this quite bright as I was a huge fan of different space-related books, cartoons, games etc. My classmates and I always mimics those heroes from cartoons as a team on space ship. So when we saw on the news that NASA is sending a robot to Mars, for us, it was like a proof that anything is possible if only you want and work hard enough to get it.
Recalling my conversations with friends, politics does not come up very often. However, based on beliefs on life among my peers I think that we are more liberal than previous genrations. We believe that every person has a right to express herself and has his/her own point of view on every matter. Society needs to respect this point of view even if someone may not agree with it. Therefore, if I have to choose, I think of Hillary Clinton as a political image of our generation. Talking about music, I believe that it should be something that combines few music styles. Simple pop or R&B is not enough anymore. Good example can be song “Shake it up” by Florence and The Machine. Actor and actress that represent tastes of my generation are Jennifer Lawrence and Benedict Cumberbatch. Those are symbols of self-sufficiency. Both of them have unique perception of their work and follow their own path rather than fit to standards of Hollywood celebrity image. I think that “Whiplash” demonstrates struggles and desires of my generation to great extend. It shows the ability to focus on what is important to a person and pursue development in chosen area.
3 defining events for my generation mainly concerns technological advancements. To my opinion, the great impact on my generation had video-on-demand service as I am no longer plan my day according to schedule of my favorite TV shows. Also spread of social media like Youtube, Facebook and Instagram. Today it is already hard to imagine how people managed to stay in touch with their friends without social networks. One more invention that has the greatest impact on my generation is smartphone. Closely to this one, is launching 3G and 4G Internet. All these innovations supplement each other and provide its users with instant access to any information we need at any time at any place.
