Dear Dean,
RE: PETITION AGAINST DISMISSAL FROM THE COLLEGE OF NURSING
This is to present my petition following my dismissal from the college of nursing as a result of failure to meet the standard grade of C in the course NR226-Fundamentals-Patient Care. I admit this failure on my part to meet this standard grade and wish to declare my interest and commitment with the course.
I believe that I am a naturally focused person and persistent in pushing for my goals and objectives. However, this has not been the case with this course and I have failed to remain focused and committed to this program due to a number of issues that have significantly derailed my focus and intention to successfully complete the course. Conceivably, in as much as I am intrinsically motivated to pursue this program, a number of issues, ranging from family to financial have really weighed me down and could not render my very best due to the distracting effect of these factors.
For one, I work full time in order to raise enough money to pay for school fees and due to this aspect, it has been a tall order to stay un-derailed. Working full time means that I have more duty-bound responsibilities on my table and to some extent, this divides my devotion towards the course. I had developed a study plan at the beginning of this course that I believe would have helped me to achieve a better grade than this and this plan had factored in the challenge of creating time within my busy work schedule. However, the emergence of issues that I may term as unforeseeable really hampered my ability to remain true to the initial study plan. While sometimes, I am obliged to deal with huge workloads, I knew that creating time for my course work would not be a major challenge.
Coupled with factor, I am a mother of three kids (1, 4 and 5 years) and to add on to the work-related responsibilities, these are pretty young and dependent children who require my attention most of the time, especially when I am at home or free from work-related responsibilities. To make it worse, the children were severely sick when I was taking this course-something which really drained me emotionally, affecting my full concentration. For instance, one of my children (the five-year old) was diagnosed with seizure and the medications as well as the treatment plan for seizure especially for a child, requires a lot of devotion due to constant monitoring. At the very period, I unfortunately lost my dad. This was a period of intense emotional pain and disturbance to me and I could not afford the right mental state for books and learning. The burial arrangements was also an extra expense which I had not planned for and this means that I had to dig deeper into my pocket and utilize every opportunity at work including overtime to meet all these unplanned financial needs. To a large extent, I believe that it takes a settled mind, devoid of emotional disturbances or stress to gain the necessary energy and strength for books. This has also been a major hindrance towards my full commitment to the course work.
While these challenges have been overwhelming, I believe that with every challenge we encounter in life, we learn a lesson and harden us to become better achievers in the future. In this relation, I have developed a plan that would help me in addressing all the above-mentioned challenges in a bid to afford more focused and committed approach to my course work. I intend to be engaged with the course on a full-time basis, meaning that I will have to abandon my work and a significant load of family work in a bid to concentrate more on the courses. As part of this plan, I intend to bring my mother to stay with me and help with taking care of the kids and other home roles. Additionally, I am quitting my job and this would create adequate time for my course work. Of course, now that I am quitting my job, I must have in place a financial plan that would help me pay the bills and finance my education, at least for the period that I will be re-taking the course. As such, I have made arrangements with my bank to obtain a loan that would sustain me throughout the course, covering all my financial needs.
As afore-mentioned, I believe that I am intrinsically motivated towards accomplishing my goals and notwithstanding the effects of these challenges that I would believably attribute my failure to, I still believe in an optimistic future. With the plans described above, I believe that I stand a better chance to succeed in this course and surpass the pass-mark of a C-grade. I promise this time to render my very best with the course and hope for your consideration and the subsequent withdrawal of the dismissal. I am eagerly waiting for your response and consideration.
Thank you.
