The story, Walk in the woods, describes bills Bryson adventures, but challenging moments with his old school friend Katz. In the story, Bill is determined and curious to know and learn his new environments on the other side Stephen is lazy and unprepared. Moreover, both Bill and Katz lack outdoor knowledge and experience. There for, they experience many difficulties in their adventure.
The story is very interesting and throughout the reading, there is a great sense of humor. This contributes a lot to the tone of the story, which we can describe it as hilarious. It sounds funny for people who are not even psychologically prepared to decide to have a very long journey of adventures, without the knowledge and experience towards a given direction. The significance of the story is to criticize the characters’ actions of exploring without proper preparations. In my view, this tone fits very well in the story because of the dominating theme that is bittersweet.
The writer’s choice of words is unique and creative for the purposes of attracting his audience. In addition to that, the language is easy and simple to understand. The words selected are either to create a sense of humor and criticism.
According to me, Bill was quite biased because he was triggered by his experience, the challenges faced during his adventures in writing the story, and also he wanted to attract his audience too. One of them is exaggerating in some cases. He says that he was able to cover long distance in very a short period, climb high mountains with Stephen yet his friend was quite stubborn. However, it made him achieve his writing skills and methods of the overall story.
Bill and Katz were old school friends. In their hiking, they faced many challenges because there was no a good cooperation between them. This is because Bill was prepared and determined to hike, but Stephen was not. This forced them to part ways for some time before they again carried on together.
