Writing essays, stories or articles is a very interesting process which demands a lot of practice and effort. This process requires careful analyzing, thinking over the advantages and disadvantages of the following issues in order to write not only creative or critical essays, but also to make them legible and interesting for the readers.
When I first took up writing classes I thought that it must be an easy and interesting class to attend, like in my own native language , to think of the idea and then to implement it into the essay. In fact, it turned out to be a complicated and puzzling task for me. As I am an international student I was not familiar with APA and MLA formatting, works cited page and signal phrases. Step by step, I learnt how to write the introduction, the body paragraphs and conclusion and the most important thing, how to avoid plagiarism. Firstly, I was not sure how to start it, how to form thesis and eventually how to refer my body paragraphs to it. I was nervous and could not make up my mind in order to write successful essays but I made some progress when I started attending writing classes. I have created an outline which helped me to organize my thoughts properly, also before writing I often write a plan for my essay. As an international student I needed more time to study and then to cover prewriting strategies, smooth transition sentences and creation of engaging introduction.
Secondly, I have noticed that my vocabulary has exceedingly improved, the usage of new idioms and phrases, as well as linking verbs became inalienable part of my writing. Moreover, the passion to write evoked self-confidence and eagerness to send my message across to society. In addition, the realization of my talent would not be possible without my professor who helped me to evaluate and reconsider the organization of essay writing.
The main argument to support this statement is that this course will help me to get desirable job in the future. I consider attending writing classes after my graduation, in fact this will give me an amazing opportunity not only to become a successful writer but also to develop as a personality. What is more, I have understood that it is never too late to study and to inspire people with new exciting stories and novels. I have come to that conclusion while I was checking my classmate’s work, it was brilliant, though he asked me to review and criticize it. Peer edit turned out to be a good way to improve my grammar and sentence structure. This amazing technique helps young writers to fight the fear of being criticized, as there are no perfect writers, everybody make mistakes. The friendly atmosphere and collaborative teamwork while checking, brings new ideas and knowledge.
All things considered, the knowledge which I gained during this semester is invaluable for me. The blank paper and a pen can help to broaden your mind and to deliver the words which sometimes cannot be said. This skill creates the whole new world, where you are the master and only you are the one who dictates the rules, what to write and who will have a chance to read what you have written. I hope that in the near future I will be proficient enough to write a good book and to share the precious moments of my life with those who cannot imagine their life without a good piece of writing.
