Communication is an important element to gain understanding in whatever situation a person is in. It is especially effective if spoken using a common language. In this world, there are 700 million people who speaks English, and this language has been the most widely spoken and written language . This figure accounts for approximately 63% of the population in the world and I am part of it . Learning English as one of my spoken languages does not stops when I finished my bachelor degree in 2010 from King Faisal University. I believe that improving the way I converse in English – technically, in business set-up or during a daily routine – will allow me to develop my confidence and bring me a step forward to achieve my goals.
As I embark and challenge myself to enhance my knowledge in English, I hope to become eloquent English speaker and a translator. Being able to achieve this will permit me to tap into even the small part of the 37% of the population who does not speak the language. I do not intend to teach them all, but a humble to start within my community and my university will be a good start. It is my ambition to become a professional English translator who doesn’t bother if I need to start small when it comes to disseminating my knowledge in the language. After all, big successes come from baby steps, and that is what I intend to do. By learning and enhancing my skills in the English language, this will lead to another goal where I hope to translate several books from English to Arabic. In this way, those books that can penetrate our country, but cannot be understood because its language is in English, can now be accessible and readable for everyone. Learning the language will help me to gradually collaborate with other writers and publishers to whom I will share my vision and hopefully assist me to attain my goal. I don’t only improve myself, but also become an instrument for other people to learn other knowledge through my professional translation capabilities and bring consciousness to them.
With such intentions and goals on my shoulder, I desire to become part of this institution to complete my required curriculum in translation as a graduate student. Being part of this reputable institution will push me to my limit to immerse myself and hone my knowledge in English. Finishing this curriculum will definitely a good reputation within my belt and assist me in my application for an MA in English – Arabic translation in Leeds University. Since my bachelor years, I have established a very good academic performance, gaining an excellent grade of 4.67 out of 5. I have been curious and interested in learning facts through reading books and other reading materials. I believe that if I continuously dedicate significant hours of learning English even outside the academic vicinity, I will gradually improve my written and speaking skills. I am also fascinated with so many facts in the Internet and have been using computer applications extensively. I have been studying and exploring new knowledge on my own including the usage of several computer software including Microsoft Words, Photoshop and Power Point. I trust that my discipline in acquiring new knowledge will be a good edge for me to improve and become a trusted professional English translator.
