Part 1:
Comparing these three videos, I was able to see that the Adowa video was distinct from the other two. At first, the dancing moves of the Adowa dancers entailed propelling hands and their arms side to side in a gentle manner. Their legs were also shifting indirectly while their feet were synchronizing constantly with the tune. These dancers would also rotate their lips in circles while their bodies are entirely close to one another. On the other hand, the Masai dance performers’ dancing style was more of jumping in circles. The dancers were vigorous and could jump as high as possible while keeping their bodies parallel to each other. Finally, the Sabar dancers had similarity to the Masai dancing style in that their dancing style was utilizing on the constant movement of legs while their bodies remained barely shaken.
The manner of which the Adowa dancers were dancing indicates that they were dancing to their culture through following the moves that traditional dancers used. These dancing moves are an indication of values and ethnic cultures that the Adowa people hold deeply. Their dressing is also an indication of their cultural dressing styles. The Masai were also representing their cultural practices through the dancing style of jumping up and down. The vigorous dance that sees them jump high enough is a representation of the energetic people celebrating good events in the culture. The dressing also is an indication of how the Masai dress as part of the cultural practices. Finally, the Sabar dancer’s way of dabbing into their sleeves is a cultural movement representing their culture. Their dancing moves were also adapting to different melodies in that they could change their moods and moves basing on the environmental surroundings.
The student did a good job in describing the intrinsic elements evident through three dances. The student has managed to identify some visible identities of these three dances in details. The student also did a good job in describing the movements that dancers perform in each of these dances. The description creates an impression that the student indeed was keen at studying these extrinsic elements, while connecting them to the purpose they serve or intend to serve. In the second paragraph, the student also did a good job in describing the extrinsic elements. The student was able to interpret these dances and relate them to the cultural practices performed by each dancing group. More so, the student did a good job in talking about values that each form of dance was portraying.
