The BSN program has equipped me to be a competent and compassionate nursing professional. I am also adequately prepared in my role as a practitioner, leader, and researcher. The program is designed to provide knowledge and skills that are relevant to a caregiver. As a result, I have developed the capacity to practice in diverse healthcare settings such as public health, critical care, mental health, and outpatient settings. Indeed, I am well-equipped to provide care to individuals, families, and communities at any point in the human lifespan in diverse environments.
The curriculum incorporates scientific concepts from the social, physical, and biological fields. These concepts have expanded my understanding of a wide array of chronic and acute illnesses, determinants of health, disease progression, and community health. Therefore, apart from providing direct care to patients, I have the capacity to function effectively in health promotion, patient education, managed care, disease prevention, and case management.
The inclusion of liberal arts in the program has assisted me in developing the social, cultural, and intellectual competencies of a nurse. The program has utilized liberal learning to help me in developing a global perspective to nursing and healthcare. As such, I am competent in applying professional nursing skills in today’s dynamic and multicultural, international society.
The program prepared me for the application and technology in healthcare systems. The use of Health Information Management Systems (HIMS), simulators, and virtual patients has given me insights into the use of technological to promote quality and safety in nursing care. The program has assisted me in enhancing clinical reasoning, decision-making, and critical thinking skill that are essential in nursing leadership.
