Personal and Professional Development Plan
Personal and Professional Development Plan
The primary focus of the course is to help students to acquire relevant skills and competencies that are essential for the management of public health (Rosen, Imperato, & Fee, 2015, 56). The study of the methods and techniques of evaluating the factors that determine the health of communities is an important skill in the assessment of the health status of a society. The lessons concerning the different perceptions that healthcare professionals and clients have regarding healthcare are informative, and they enable people working in the industry to approach the challenges that confirm them (Morrisey, 1992, 33). The study of past public health interventions helps in identifying potential pitfalls in the provision of health to societies.
This course revealed that public health is a distinct field and specialty of medicine that requires intensive and rigorous training just like any other discipline. In addition to the acquisition of academic competencies, individuals should also strive to improve their practical skills (Bruyant-Langer, 2013, 12). Ideally, the skills offered by this course are an essential introduction to the study and practice of public health, but there is more that is yet to be explored before one can be a confident public health officer. The acquisition of more knowledge and skills in the public health field is both a professional and personal development goal.
