This is a story about the boy called Pi Patel, the protagonist of the movie, who has spent more than six months in the open ocean with a Bengal tiger. The story is not a fictional and it is based on the novel Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel. Ang Lee, the director of the film did a brilliant job by showing us how both, a human and an animal had survived in extreme conditions.
First and foremost, Pi Patel is a simple, sixteen years old Indian boy. His father was the owner of the zoo, that is why the boy was quite interested in zoology and characteristics of animal beings,as well as their habits. The film perfectly depicts the relationship between a man and the animal. The rivalry between “the animal in a human” and the animal, transforms into the desire to live, the tandem of feelings and emotions.
Pi Patel’s life had changed after the shipwreck, he lost all his family and thought that his end was near, and he would be eaten by a wild animal. The feeling of a fear did not live him throughout the film, it was time for him to become self-sufficient and challenge one's possibilities in order to survive. He found a survival guide ,some tools and emergency provisions.He was capable of protecting oneself from a tiger by providing him food and establishing the control over the wild animal.
The only thing what made him believe that one day everything would change and they reach the land was Pi’s belief in God. It helped him to overcome the fear and helped him to survive. He thought that it was a lesson from God, but he was sure that God wanted him to be alive and all these challenges had just been an adventure.
All things considered, Pi Patel is not just a boy who survived and managed to hand a tiger, he is an image of a miracle, and these miracles happen if you truly believe in God.
