Self-Survey Results
In terms of environmental factor, going out of town for a nature trip at least once in a month provides a very positive effect on my health. A simple trip to the lake for a swim and a stroll in the woods enables me to unwind and clear up all the stress from the long days of schoolwork and other personal issues. It was apparent from the survey responses that my environmental health needs improvement as it showed an apparent imbalance as compared to the other health indicators. On the other hand, staying in the city for extended amount of time poses a negative effect on my health due to the city pollution. For one, the air quality in the city is degraded with so much CO2 from the industrial facilities and vehicles. Air quality is important in ensuring a healthy respiratory system. Having exposed to pollutants encompasses a risk to respiratory health, which may also lead to weakened immune system and other health issues.
In terms of lifestyle, factors such as peer-pressure pushes me to be engaged into activities that has a negative implication to health. For instance, partying may help to temporarily divert the stress of everyday existence. However, it damages one aspect of well-being and that is the commitment to stay within the concept of balanced living. It is important to spend time with people and to socialize, but vulnerabilities such as excessiveness due to peer-pressure disrupt the balance of healthy living. Another factor that affects my overall health is the everyday encounter with personal relationships and the everyday battles with other personal issues. For example, committing time to ensure a long-lasting relationship while keeping up with the demands of a student life. It is apparent that people face personal difficulties and emotional battles from time to time. At certain times, personal issues related to family, friends, finances, and relationships lead to the feeling of being depressed. This in return affects my behavior towards people and end up in misunderstandings.
However, personal difficulties entail mood changes and in effect change my normal diet patterns. I, at some point use eating ice cream as a coping mechanism when depressed, but nothing goes unresolved for a long-time because I also make sure that I share my thoughts and feelings with people that I am close with. This is also a coping mechanism for me to ease up and to focus on more important things. The behavioral problem never goes beyond the point of self-destruction because I always make sure that I have emotional support all the time from family and friends. Sharing thoughts and feelings with loved ones has always been a good way for me to think clearly in order to make careful decisions and fair judgment. On the other hand, my personal health promotion is often overlooked as observed in the score from the self-survey results, but it doesn’t mean that I am neglecting the need to carefully exercise precaution when making health-related choices.
