The experience I had while growing up can be compared to that in Trackton. This is where the rural setting did not have any effort to impart some literacy to the children as they grew up. My case is that my parents tried hard to have me learn words and any movement I had was a sign that I was developing. There was no effort to make the environment favorable for learning. The environment was human such that there were no pictures that would help me to learn pictures. I learnt about the different animals and different shapes from the books that I got access to from my elder siblings who were already in school. While they went through the pages seeing at the pictures, I got a chance to have a look at the pictures. I found this interesting and from the various shapes, I got to learn the various shapes. Nobody then had any knowledge that I needed to learn these shapes too. It was better with the pictures in these books because at least they tried to make me understand these animals. I had many people who were interested in these pictures and they told me their names so that I would try to know them. Although they tried to make me know these animals, they did not teach me how to pronounce the names of these animals. They were happy when I murmured some incomprehensible words which they could not understand at all. This is something that should be improved in the rural setting.
Things changed little bit when I went to my uncle’s places homes. They lived in towns not far from our homes they had strived to make children understand the literacy and education. This is something that helped me learn few things regarding formal education. I remember there were pictures of different animals on the wall. Literacy acquisition differs from culture to culture.
