Choice of Topic
Prenatal development refers to the growth that takes place in the life of human before their birth. During this stage, the maternal and paternal parents should be very much concerned about the welfare of their unborn baby. I am particularly interested in this topic because it touches on a very significant matter. It is important for everyone to be knowledgeable on the exact steps to take during this period. This is because many parents make a lot of mistakes which end up ruining the lives of their children in the long run. Since most of such mistakes are done because of ignorance, this topic can be instrumental in sensitizing them. This topic can help many parents to avoid the mistakes which often engager their children’s physical and mental development. Moreover, the knowledge of prenatal care may help the parents to know the exact lifestyle they should adopt while expecting their children. After their birth, children may develop a lot of congenital complications mainly because their parents refused to act responsibly. Meaning, the topic can sensitize everyone on the role of avoiding alcoholism and adopting recommended diets for the sake of their unborn babies.
Literature Review
While conducting this research, I will prefer to use the following resources for my literature review:
- The Effects of Prenatal Use of Folic Acid and Other Dietary Supplements on Early Child Development.
This article was written by George Wehby and Jeffery Murey. It discusses about the use of dietary supplements during prenatal stage. He reports that certain supplements such as Folic Acid can greatly harm the unborn baby. I can choose to use it as a resourceful material for this research because it is useful for and contains invaluable information on dangers of using certain chemicals and dietary supplements on the future development of the child. This is an important aspect of prenatal care that needs to be included in this research. Diet is a very important thing which should be taken seriously in the life of a child right from its conception.
- The Effects of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure on Child Development
This article was authored by Joseph Jacobson et al. It gives a candid discussion regarding the dangers of using alcohol during pregnancy. This is a common habit amongst many parents. It can help to provide adequate information for this research. This can be instrumental in challenge parents on the negative consequences of prenatal alcohol use and exposure. Besides, it can appeal to parents to prioritize the health of their children instead of practicing their normal drunken lifestyles. A lot of children have been born with serious deformities or disorders that directly result from their parents’ use or exposure to alcohol and other such drugs. Jacobson exploits this in his research.
- Prenatal maternal anxiety and early childhood temperament
This article was written by Meganm Blair et al. It can help in understanding much about the effects of the emotional status of the parents during pregnancy can end up endangering the future development of the child. These are very important resources which should not be left out while conducting such a research. They contain a lot of information which if used, will be integral in producing a sound and valid research. It can help in understanding the concept of behavior development. As the authors examine, prenatal anxiety may greatly influence the child’s temperament and other forms of behavior.
