Assignment Title
There are numerous products on the market that promise instant weight loss. Competing equally with them are the many books, articles and videos that promise weight loss without much work put into it. The rise in the sales of weight loss products and the numerous books are a result of the society’s obsession with weight loss. Weight loss is seen as a path towards having a slim body shape and not seen as something that would keep people in good shape, mentally and physically. Although there is a growing demand for weight loss programs and people spend a lot of money and energy on trying to lose weight, they are not successful. The sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits and yo-yo dieting causes people to pile on more kilos. Obesity and weight loss has become a major concern not only for the individual but it is also a concern for the society and government as obesity creates major health problems and is taxing on the health care systems. Losing weight should be done in a healthy way. The goal of losing weight should not be solely to gain a slim appearance but also to lose weight.
Losing weight depends a lot on the food that a person eats and the amount of exercise he or she gets. Food does not become a problem as long as it is consumed in moderation. As much as the amount of food intake is important, the time that a person eats is also equally important. Going to bed soon after eating should be avoided and meals should not be skipped. Skipping a meal only leads to binging later on in the day. A diet rich in vegetables, greens, protein and lean meat is good for losing weight as the fibre in the food makes the person feel full after a meal and shuts down any craving they might have. These foods are also less in calories and help prevent weight gain. Instead of trying out fancy diets, it is good to know the right amount of food that a person needs to take to remain healthy. Not everyone has the same body type and different people need to eat differently to remain healthy and lose weight. Exercise also plays a major part in weight loss. If losing weight in a healthy manner is the ultimate goal, exercise should be started slowly. Most people stress their bodies too much in an effort to become thin within a few days or weeks. This causes the body undue stress and can prove to be problematic at a later time. There is really no specific amount of time that a person should exercise. The amount of exercise should depend on the weight of the person, the food intake and the physical condition. Swimming for half an hour or walking for an hour are some exercises that can be easily done on a daily basis without stressing the body too much. A healthy diet together with medium exercise would lead to healthy weight loss. Weight loss is possible without exercise but the problem with losing weight this way is that the person would lose all the fat and muscle from the body. Exercising helps build muscles that are needed for everyday physical activity. Scrimping on food and exercising too much would only lead to health problems. The key to a successful, healthy weight loss would be to eat in moderation and exercise enough to burn the extra calories. A person should lose weight to get fit and stay healthy. Beauty comes from within and if a bad diet and strenuous exercise is not making a person happy, there is no point in losing weight.
