Louisville county government has a hierarchical organizational structure. The head of the county government is the mayor. Besides the mayor they have an internal audit office and a council. Below the mayor is a chief of staff who is answerable to the mayor. Below the chief of staff are various chiefs who a responsible for various departments. The departments are police services, public services, community building, Louisville forward, finance, improvement and technology, and civic innovations. Under each department are sub-departments that split the functions of the department according to related activities or functions. The County of Louisville had a population of 760,026 in 2015 a slight increase from the population of 2014 of 756,832.
The total assets and the deferred outflow of resources of Louisville County government exceeded the sum of total liabilities deferred resource outflows by 867.6 million dollars which represented a 35.9 percent decline. The decline is largely attributable to a 340 percent increase in deferred resource inflow and an increase in all liabilities. The assets of County of Louisville increased marginally. Current assets increased by 8.8 percent while equity interest of the county government in component units increased by 3.6 percent. The ending fund balance for the County of Louisville was 203.3 million dollars for the fiscal year ending 2015 which was an increase of 16.3 million from the previous fiscal year. The net position of County of Louisville included 886.8 million dollars equity interest in Louisville Water Company. The revenues generated by the county government increased from 744, 136 million dollars to 776,657 million dollars while expenses increased by a lower percentage. However, due to restatements in the previous year figures the net position declined by 491.1 million dollars.
