Distinguish between mature and immature love. What are the characteristics of each?
Mature love was distinguished from immature love by Williams, Sawyer, and Wahlstrom through asserting that “immature love is passionate or romantic love. Mature love resembles companionate love” (124). One strongly believes that the distinguishing factor between mature and immature love is the depth, intensity, and ability to withstand challenges, trials, and tribulations that form part of the relationship. The characteristics present in immature love are as follows: fleeting and shallow; based on attractions due to physical traits, as well as the exhibiting of good qualities of the partners, and could therefore immediately result to broken relationship due to trivial matters. On the other hand, the characteristics exhibited in mature love are: long-enduring, deep, profound, knows no boundaries or conditions, resilient, and able to withstand the tests of time.
What variables were found to build effective communication?
The variables found to build effective communication are as follows: effective assessment and knowledge or familiarity of both sender and recipient of the messages; and being aware of the situation for communicating appropriate messages. Likewise, as emphasized by Martires, the factors that affect the quality of communication include: clarity of objective or intent for the message to be communicated, the personalities and traits of both the sender and the recipient, commonly shared experiences, effective use of symbols, observing appropriate application of medium depending on circumstances (verbal, letters, email, mass media, etc.), the clear and smooth pathways, absence of information overload, and ability to provide feedback (87-92). As such, the most effective communication apparently results when congruence exists between meanings of symbols, as perceived accurately by both the sender and the receiver.
