This discussion will focus on explaining what happened next after Macbeth’s death through Malcolm’s perspectives. Restoring peace in order in the Scottish kingdom is a challenge to Malcolm after he became king, which will be explored by identifying the steps that Malcolm took to achieve such goal.
The Kingdom After Macbeth
Going back to the event when Macduff had finally defeated Macbeth in a bloody fight, Malcolm usurped the throne of his father whom Macbeth had murdered. Now declared as the new king of Scotland, Malcolm’s intention was to invite the entire country to see him crowned at Scone. This event suggests that a new era will unfold in the kingdom as Malcolm rules his kingdom with just and devotion as depicted in one of his gestures to promote his loyal servant with a title of Earl. From Malcolm’s perspective, the death of Macbeth is an overwhelming opportunity to take back what is rightfully his. In addition, there is an apparent task to rebuild his kingdom from the rubbles and lift darkness that embraced the land during Macbeth’s reign. There is much to do, the people had to be assured of a better future, better life and more importantly a peaceful existence that is free from tyranny and injustice.
However, mending the broken kingdom is a difficult challenge that Malcolm has to face. Becoming the king may be an astounding reward for a long struggle for power and birthright, but it is just a sweet end to one’s chapter that will eventually begin with another, this chapter is called a path to change.
Indeed, rebuilding the walls of a broken kingdom from the ashes of the bitter past is a daunting task, but believing is something that gives hope for the best. There is a lot to do after the death of Macbeth, after becoming the king, the next challenge is to recover what is lost and mend what is broken, one step at a time. The first step is to recover what was lost and that is the spirit of the people that were once high and full of hope. In order to do such, the people had to be gathered to witness as the new era unfolds, which will happen after the crown was placed on my head (Malcolm). A new king signifies a new chapter in every people’s lives; the people will look up to their new king as an embodiment of their hopes coming back from the shadows. The next step is to mend what is broken, and that is the broken pieces of the people’s lives shattered by the inexistence of justice. Fair, equality and justice would prevail in the kingdom as long as I (Malcolm) sit on my father’s throne. There would be peace, as no man will take advantage of the weak and the weak to be carried by the strong and the just. It is the day when every family would sleep soundly at night, as fear will no longer reside in their hearts and they will wake up to the sound of the trees and the birds in a warm morning sun, for those that brought terror in their nights will finally be brought to the hands of justice and be judged to eternal rest.
