a) FOR EACH STATION, WHAT IS THE EXPECTED NUMBER OF STUDENTS AT THAT STATION (INCLUDING WAITING AND BEING SERVED).
Limited evaluation sequence
Blood pressure station;
70 percent of 15 (students that get admitted by the nurse in one hour)
= 11 students
Thus, 10 students served while 1 student waits.
Heart test station;
Since the station serves 11 students in an hour, all the students will be served and none will be waiting.
Detailed evaluation sequence
Blood workgroup station;
30 percent of 15
= 4 students
All the 4 students served in full blood workup station
Chest X ray station;
This serves 6 persons per hour , since there only 4, they’ll all be served without any waiting.
Final testing area
5 students from the limited evaluation sequence and 2 students from the detailed evaluation sequence proceed from to the final testing area. This gives a total of 7 students in this area.
Dental station;
8 examinations per hour are possible, thus all the 7 seven students will be served in an hour in this station.
Vision test station;
0.6 × 7 students are served
= 5 students
Hearing station;
3 hearing tests are possible in an hour. Half of the students from the vision test station are served here, hence 3 students will be served here with none waiting.
a) FOR EACH STATION, WHAT IS THE EXPECTED TIME STUDENTS SPEND AT THAT STATION (INCLUDING TIME SPENT WAITING AND TIME BEING SERVED.)
Blood pressure station; time spent = 60minutes ÷ 10 students
= 6 minutes each
Heart test station; time spent = 60 minutes ÷ 11 students
= 5 minutes and 46 seconds
Blood workgroup station; time spent = 60 minutes ÷ 4 students
= 15 minutes
Dental station; time spent = 60 minutes ÷ 7 students
= 8 minutes and 57 seconds
Vision test station; time spent = 60minutes ÷ 5 students
= 12 minutes
Hearing station; time spent = 60 minutes ÷ 3 students
= 20 minutes
b) WHAT IS THE EXPECTED NUMBER OF STUDENTS AT THE HEALTH FAIR. SHOW YOUR CALCULATION.
In one hour, the number of students being served at a go will be give by:
10 + 11 + 4 + 7 + 5 + 3 = 40 students.
Assuming that the health fair takes 8 hours per day 7 seven days, then the number of students expected will be;
40 × 8 × 7
=2240 students.
c) IF YOU COULD PROVIDE FOR AN ADDITIONAL WORKER AT ONE OF
THE STATIONS, WHICH WOULD YOU, CHOOSE?
This would definitely be at the blood pressure station because the delays caused by the 1 waiting student per hour would increase the backlog of tests and cause an almost stand still procedure.
