Working under Allan Partin presented me with the opportunity to learn widely and wildly about human resource management and the fact that a manager could employ a charismatic and persuasive approach rather than just be authoritative and commanding. I believe that Allan is a typical example of good managers. In our interaction, he showcased the elements that are often admired in the management.
For starters, Allan is accommodating and listening. It is not always about orders and commands that makes effective management. He entertains one’s point of view. Reconciles one’s aspirations and suggestions to the overall managerial objective in a way that makes the employee feel part of the decision making and policy formulation system. In addition, under Allan, we had comprehensive brainstorming sessions in which the managerial portfolios would be temporarily dropped and employees engage in constructive dialogue in an open and effective way.
Another quality that was outstanding was the progressive nature of conflict handling in the organisation. Allan appreciates that conflict is inevitable in an organisation with a diverse set of personnel. However, he understands that the catch lies in the solution of the conflict. He employs constructive resolution of conflict for purposes of facilitating employee interaction, information supply and cohesion. This he does through the comprehensive approach in solving conflict in which each employee is given an opportunity to advance his or her case and the solution settled on is a combination of all the strong points from the conflicting employees. This approach enables the employees to interact and agree on the way forward in a cohesive nature.
In conclusion, the leadership and managerial styles adopted by Allan enable the forward progress of the organisation. It seeks to adopt an inclusive nature where everybody feels part and parcel of the product and thereby proud and diligent in their contributions.
