Communication is a vital tool in handling critical issues in an organization. The essence of globalization has made the world get firsthand information as it happens elsewhere in microseconds. The advancement in technology is accredited to the continued looming crisis experienced in offices and business. Similarly, the digital word has experienced particular content going viral often shared in social media, for example, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Clients raise such complaints.
The article highlights the plights client and individuals go through in trying to solve communication crisis. Further, different scenarios are presented to reinforce the author’s main argument and to pass her message. Ideally, the author is trying to pinpoint the efficiency of communication and how crisis looms which in the end affects the reputation of business or individuals. The article provides key steps of the communication and companies can adopt to navigate from the crises experienced in today’s environment (Chakrabarti 1).
Theoretically, the practice is not utilized efficiently as per the article's presentations. The communication tools used, for example, the picture posted on Facebook that criticized the Subway Sandwich measurement, which was less than 11 inches. Matt Corby (Australian teenager) image gained 131000 likes in the few hours that made the word wide Subway receives negative publicity (Chakrabarti 2). The hyper-connected world receives information and prejudgments are made leaving the concerned people to clean the negative publicity. Additionally, the article provides an example of a company when in crisis. The larger population would ask, “Who is their PR agency?” Ideally, this jeopardizes the reputation of the management and the public relation officers.
Other examples include Malaysian Airlines disappearance, US cyber-attacks Target Corporations, and Asian air crash. Ideally, the crises experienced today affect the penetration of the products in the market that need immediate gratification to salvage the situation. Negative publicity as noted affects the customer retention and loyalty. Further, the newer customer would be afraid to join the company based on the information shared.
Interestingly, companies and firms have been seen preparing press statements to make clarifications and refute the wrong information or dangers that they are facing. Some bloggers and other stakeholders tend to retweet challenges that the company faces, hence making the potential problems hard to solve. The new set of challenges posed in the current world has made the management think of prompt measures to help handle the looming crisis that affects their operations. Swirling information that is in the public domain can be managed by thinking outside and make strategies to approach the stakeholders and customers since their comments counts than what the company or organization desires to communicate.
Arguably, the theoretical framework adopted by the journal attempts to provide practical measures that aid in handling crisis, both in corporate level and individual level (Chakrabarti 3). The article emphasizes the need to ensure that the company makes key communications. Ideally, this will aid counter speculations made on various social media platforms as the article refutes the use of dictatorial management since it will create friction in the company.
Notably, to solve internal communication issues it is critical for the management to realize the swiftness of communication tools. The internet and digitization are unforgiving if wrong information reaches the population. It is imperative to place a steadfast dynamic mechanism that generates effective communication plans. Further, the management strategies will aid in resolving internal conflicts that may compromise the reputation of the company.
