Exercise 1
Driving in winter, especially on snowy, icy roads can be less troublesome if you take a few simple precautions. First, put on snow tires if you plan to drive on snowy, icy roads very often. Second, check the amount of anti-freeze in your radiator and add more if necessary. Next, add antifreeze to your windshield washer fluid; otherwise, the fluid will freeze and possibly break the container. Finally, it is also a good idea to carry tire chains, a can of spray to unfreeze door locks, and a windshield scraper in your car when driving in winter weather
The increasing depletion of oil reserves, along with environmental concerns has prompted some radical developments in car design over the past few years. Researchers in the automobile industry are experimenting with different types of engines and fuels as alternatives to the conventional gasoline engines. One new type of engine, which burns diesel oil instead of gasoline, has been available for several years. A further type is the gas turbine engine, which can use fuels made from gasoline, diesel oil, kerosene and other petroleum distillates. Finally, several automobile manufacturers are experimenting with methanol, which is a mixture of gasoline and methyl alcohol, as an automobile fuel. A breakthrough in one of these areas will hopefully provide a means of relieving both the overstretched oil market and the environment.
Some form of written communication has been used throughout the centuries. In the earliest times, people carved or painted messages on rocks. Later on, people began to write on pieces of leather, which were rolled into scrolls. In the middle Ages, heavy paper called parchment was used for writing and books were laboriously copied by hand. With the invention of the printing press in the middle of the fifteenth century, the modern printing industry was born.
Exercise 2
There are different ways that an individual can relax. Americans relaxing at home, for example, may put on kimonos, which is a Japanese word. Americans who live in a warm climate may take an afternoon siesta on an outdoor patio without even realizing that these are Spanish words. In their gardens, they may enjoy the fragrance of jasmine flowers, a word that came into English from Persian. They may even relax on a chaise longue, while sipping a drink made with vodka, words of French and Russian origin, respectively.
Various universities have been realized to differ when it comes to the policy of students attending classes. In European universities, students are not required to attend classes. In fact, professors in Germany generally do not know the names of the students enrolled in their courses. In the United States, however, students are required to attend all classes and may be penalized if they do not. Furthermore, in the European system, there is usually just one comprehensive system, on the other hand, there are usually numerous quizzes, tests, and homework assignments, and there is almost always a final examination in each course at the end of the semester.
Over the years, man has been able to build shelter from any material rather than the belief that shelter can only be built by wood or stone. For example, the Eskimos, living in a treeless region of snow and ice, sometimes build temporary homes out of thick blocks of ice. People who live in deserts, on the other hand, use the most available material, mud or clay, which provides good insulation from the heat. In Northern Europe, Russia and other areas of the world where forests are plentiful, people usually construct their homes out of wood. In the islands of the South Pacific, where there is a plentiful supply of bamboo and palm, people use these tough, fibrous plants to build their home.

Essay
Japan is well known when it comes to comics and cartoons. In the 19th Century, a new form of comic was developed by the Japanese creators and authors and was generally referred to as Manga (Toku, 2015). This could be translated to mean whimsical or impromptu pictures. These comics have in them various components of the Japanese history, ethics and various teachings of the Japanese people. For example, the morals of the society, the economic activities and even they have been used to tell the nationals together with the whole nation the history of the Japanese people.
The general belief is that cartoons and comics are either for nerds or the younger generation, on the contrary, Manga has been realized not only to appeal to the young generation but it has been realized to have been able to be read by individuals of different ages. This in most cases has been attributed to the fact that it has its own method of appealing to individuals (Toku, 2015). Different Manga have been developed for different reasons as opposed to the general notion that comics are just meant to entertain. They have been able to come up with various genres that appeal more to the older generation, for example, the business and commerce Manga and the sexuality Manga (Dahl, 2015). This, in turn, has ensured that they have ready market in the nation and globally. This is among the various reasons why they have been able to withstand the challenges that time has thrown towards them.
Although Manga was developed in Japan, it has been able to reach bookshops and comic shops worldwide. This is since when one walks into most if not all bookshops, there’s a large possibility that they will run into a copy or even a section of Manga (Dahl, 2015). This is mainly due to the fact that the publishers have been able to translate these episodes into foreign languages, for example, English and French. This translation, however, has been realized not to follow the same message that was being sent in the Japanese edition, word for word, but rather the message in the Manga has been realized to conform to the happenings of that particular society.
In conclusion, Manga have been a part of the Japanese society and at the moment it is a major part of the Japanese publication. It has been realized to collect revenue to the tune of Millions of dollars in both Japan and the European and American markets. It is slowly changing from the issue of purely print media and also adopting the visual media.
