7-23. What do you consider to be the most important ideas or statements that can be found in the excerpt on The Communist Manifesto? Why is this considered one of the most influential documents in Western Civilization?
In the Communist Manifesto Marx discusses the way his contemporary society functioned and why exactly all happened as it happened, he also outlines what the optimum society, in his view, should be and how can we come there. First of the basic claims made by Marx are that the history of the society is the history of class struggle. This means that there is constant antagonism in the society and that it is bipolar. Secondly, out of these two camps, the proletariat should come to power. Thirdly, this should be done by force and by abolishing private property. The products of labor will be centralized not in the hands of a few but of a whole nation. Thus, when the Communism laws are established all classes will gain equal benefit and so, there will be no classes.
The Communist Manifesto is considered to be of utmost importance to Western Society because of the effects it produced. The work is straightforward, thought-out and reasoned. It explains the reasons for the current state of things, it points at the guilty and oppressing, it offers the alternative, more favorable, social order, and finally, explains how it should be done. Very important aspect of the Communist Manifesto is not only its justification of force on the way to Communism but its claim that the force is the only way. This document actually had that much power to create the world’s largest empire – the Soviet Union.
