It has become an essential and integral part of modern society, considering its effects on communication and the ability to arrive at a large number of audiences at once.
Mass media are playing a critical role in our society today, hence making it important. One of the primary significance of mass media is its ability to influence the masses. The usage of mass media to pass a message provides ease in ensuring the target audience receives it in large numbers. It provides an influence that is impacted at nearly the same time, hence creating possibilities of the desired effect. Through mass media, the society has developed adaptation to changes rapidly that without mass media would have taken longer to achieve.
One of the most troubling effects of mass media is the widespread social defiance and increasing violence. Through mass media, political regimes have started while others have collapsed. Increasing moral degradation that has seen widespread social defiance that has influenced changes that have affected society are a major problem. The increasing adoption of social media as a means of communication is slowly killing the ability of humans to interact more openly and face to face creating more social challenges than solutions. Despite the essence of mass media in its communication abilities, there is a need to control its effects on society. The ability to control it requires to have different measures in place to control its use and application in modern society.
Through mass media, the agenda of one social group with a positive cause to society may prove easy to achieve, but also similar to the agenda of the terrorists. Increasing radicalization is occurring through mass media leading to a major societal problem that keeps growing bigger and more complex in any country or internationally mandated institutions to manage.
