Evaluation
My media usage week was filled with visits on social media sites. In all fairness, I have effortlessly consumed all kinds of media the entire week – print, television, internet, and radio. I felt a little guilty because judging from the list, I was spending too much time updating my social media accounts. I recall that it kind of wasted a lot of time because these were major causes of delay for making assignments, cleaning my room, and doing other household chores.
My own media usage was not that surprising because this is my typical week. I spend most of my time scrolling the Facebook Newsfeed without noticing how much time has actually passed. I used to read a lot of books, newspapers, and magazines before but referring to the list, that is no longer the case. My media consumption was mostly the internet for the entire week. I think the internet has really changed me a lot as a person. As mentioned, I used to be a bookworm. But now, I prefer to be in front of the computer or laptop or smartphone. I realized I might as well break this habit and focus on balancing my media consumption. I need to manage my time since I consume much of my time in the virtual reality world. I now realize it is not healthy for me to keep on doing this.
It may not be very easy to change my manner of consuming media, but I now understand the importance of balancing it. The key here is to make sure that the sites I visit, the posts I share and like, the articles and stories I read are worth my while. Social media sites are really good sources of news and legit information about anything sensible. Thus, if I find it hard to detach from social media, I just need to divert my attention to more informative and more sensible posts, videos, articles, and the like instead of posting, commenting, and reading rubbish and nonsense.
