Extra mile
I woke up early that morning as it was my usually schedule, took up my running gear and set off as usual. I was particularly excited this particular morning but I could not tell the reason as to why. I found myself running at a faster pace than was usual. I am not a superstitious person, but many claim that such a feeling is an indication of good things to come or some terrible event is the offing. Those thoughts engulfed my mind but I simply brushed them off. I was not expecting anything and I did not believe in superstitious events.
As I approached my usual turn to head back home, I decided to extend my mileage since it was a weekend and I did not have a busy schedule as such. I thus decided to go up a rocky hill with some thickets and bushes on either side. Suddenly I thought I heard someone mourn or a cry of some sort. “That’s just my old mind playing tricks on me”, I consoled myself. But then i heard it again now sharp and clear and decided to follow through. The sight that met my eyes in that bush is still alive and fresh in my memory to date. An infant wrapped in a baby shawl was lying there helpless waiting for a certain death. Furious and angry at whoever was that cruel as to abandon such a wonderful creature, I picked up the child and headed back home.
